13 pin socket is part of a MOT I think when old dual ones are not. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

that's odd
what with the 13 pin supposedly a tighter waterproof fit, whereas the old double sockets did have their problems. gone

Much depends on the van, if the car is only wired for single pin he will lose battery charging, fridge supply and if fitted to the van auto trailer stabilisation, ( not the car one) the only road lighting he will lose is reverse lights my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
2012 HSE SD4 In Orkney Grey now gone, best car ever.

It is certainly a part of the MoT and will generate a fail if all of the road lights do not work. I think 7pin electrics do not include fog or reversing lights so wiring a thirteen pin socket as a seven pin socket will guarantee an MoT test fail.

Short answer then is no. That said, if he fits a thirteen to seven pin adaptor to his badly wired thirteen pin socket it won't be tested I think as the tester will not modify the socket (remove the adapter). Best check that with an MoT tester or rule book before relying on it as fact though.

Oddly enough, when I bought my previous FL2, I had the dealer (Lancaster, Welwyn Garden City) fit a tow bar and 13 pin electrics. One year on, that same dealer had the car in for its MoT test. The car was failed on the the thirteen pin electrics Very Happy

In fairness, there was a known problem with the then prescribed testing device, the dealer had farmed the MoT to its neighbouring fast fit tyre shed and in the face of my 'you fitted it, you sort it' protest, they did sort it without drama.

The same fast fit tyre shed also said they were unable to test the rear seats belts because of the fitted child seat. That despite me never having had a child seat in any of my Freelander 2s. Laughing

Why not just use a 7 - 13 adaptor??

I use the opposite configuration for my trailer (13-pin, on my Kodiaq)

Fog-light is a circuit on a 7-pin socket
