United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Fuji White

Do we have any ideas about its dimensions, apart from the wheelbase (90,110, 130? inches).

Makes 4 door a bit longer than FL2 (105 inches), how about hieght and width?

Why does it need the spare wheel on the rear door, are there batteries / motor? under boot floor? for mild 48v hybrid? FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

To be honest , I like spare wheels on the back door , much better than underslung which has no place on an off road vehicle . If it is under the rear storage carpet as an alternative , you also have problems. Imagine having to plonk a couple of shotguns and dogs ( for example ) on the hard shoulder of the M62 whilst you extract a spare wheel . The obvious downside is that the cheery little Thieving Pikey chaps could have a field day . Unless of course the mount is a nice big steel job that you can weld a nice big hardened motorcycle security chain to ! I was once worked for a big IT company and at a big company do the boss stood up at the front and said "what are we in business for?" various hands went up and gave responses like
"deliver IT solutions to our customers"
"improve our customers' productivity"
"develop better technologies"
etc. etc

"you are all wrong" said the boss and put up a big slide with just a "£" sign on it.
"if we don't make money then I can't pay your wages, it's as simple as that" 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I remember the company well.

During my time it decided that
Services could make more money than Manufacturing.
It was better Selling its assets and buildings and Renting them back.
Continual Reorganization was good.
Buying and modifying American Software was better than continuing to Write our own.
It was better to buy in Equipment rather than make it.
And many other Short Term solutions.

In the end it downsized so much that a Japanese company bought it, and now runs what is left it quite successfully.

It sounds very much like what happened to our car industry. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

And did you learn the Fujitsu song? They are paying me a very good pension so I won't knock them but there needs to be a Landrover version of this.

First time I've heard this. I had better not comment as they pay my pension as well.

My son is an Agronomist (agricultural crop consultant) who now works in Kenya but comes back here every year to attend an independent agronomist conference. He was telling me last night that three or four years ago the car park of the hotel would have been like a Freelander convention with 90% of the cars being Freelanders and a few Defenders. This year, not a single Land Rover product was to be seen, it was all Hilux, L200, Navara pickups. Cheaper, good off road, well specified and reliable. I can't see JLR ever getting this market back. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Everyone is getting into dualcabs, even Mercedes Benz. They are taking over down under. The SUV is a fading breed. Land Rover had a dualcad & stopped making it. They will end up being the only manufacturer without one & all they will have to sell is a shopping centre carpark "poodle". Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Quite fancy a Vw Amarok V6 Tdi, Landrover would do well to produce a similar competitor but they could do with it on sale now, not next year ... maybe.... Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Defender Sport

Land Rover Defender Sport: what we know
The Defender Sport is still a long way out. But L860 has our full attention because, similar to Defender, it has the premium entry-level outdoors niche all to itself. While the box-shaped classic is visually and technically off-road-biased, the Sport edition has more of an on-road and lifestyle flavour with plenty of convenience features in addition to the full set of mountain climbing gear.
Think of it as a modern Suzuki Jimny/Jeep Wrangler for the well-to-do in-crowd. To be built in low labour-cost Nitra, the Defender Sport will be available as a full battery electric vehicle.

The new Defender is slated to start from £40,000 up to £60,000!

I wonder how the entry model will compete with this at £34,000?
