Ball Joint Splitter

Can anyone recommend a ball joint splitter for the lower wishbone ball joints?
I have a Machine Mart splitter but cannot get it on the joint, It's to small and poor access. They are proving quite stubborn!
Many thanks,

Not sure if these will snap clear with the shock of a crack with a hammer but it used to work an many joints when I was in the trade all those years ago. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

got to agree
spent "wasted" money on ball joint splitters in the past, but a 1 1/2 lb ball pein hammer works 99% of the time, and when it doesn't a 6ft bar and the hammer will work.

Decades spent fixing forklifts where the steering is subject to lots of nasty chemicals, has destroyed fork type splitters, pivoting screw type and fancy pullers. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

+1 for above
Good clout with hammer and/or a pry bar will do most (if not all ) ball joints Thumbs Up No Longer the owner of a 2013MY Fuji White GS

The secret if you can do it is to hit either side of the part with the tapered hole in it on both sides with similar hammers simultaneously. Ideally with a lever and some weight generating some downforce at the same time

All of above comments + you need jack it up and lever it apart, this auto express info and youtube vid may help (a splitter would be the best option)

Many thanks for the help guys. Just found a couple of large hammers in the loft so I’ll give it another go when it stops raining :(assuming there is enough room and I can get a decent swing at it from either side).
Thanks again,

Well no problem getting the ball joint out using the big hammer method.
Problem came when trying to fit the new wishbone. No problem with aligning the rear bush and clamp or ball joint but having no success getting the front bush bolt aligned. Had to give up for tonight and try again in the morning. Car still on jacks for the night.
Anyone have any advice? I'm a little stuck. Gone:

The wishbone should be fitted rear first, then front bolt and the ball joint should be the last part to be fitted as it has the most amount of adjustment. Doing it that way should allow enough adjustment to get the front bolt in ok. Good luck! Thumbs Up

Many thanks for you help dondiddy. Took no time at all today. Smile

There is a video on tube based on a similar job on a Mondeo. Even the experienced mechanic had trouble with refitting the wishbone.

All the best,
