LR Assist - Thrifty Car Rental - Maximum 2 days ?

Hi,

Ended up with a Mitsubishi Outlander Phev as my Freelander broke down with injector seal problems on Friday. The AA dropped the Freelander at Inchape Preston who said they were not taking booking and it would not be looked at until the 7th January at the earliest. They said they had no courtesy cars available.

Within the LR appoved warranty they say they only provide a courtesy car for 2 working days, after that you have to pay. Thrifty's rental agreement expires on the 1st Jan. Will LR Assist extend this. Has anyone had this issue before ?

Thanks

Neil. MY13 TD4 Black and White manual - Gone

Sorry no idea about warranty car hire (although you may be able to plead extra for bank holiday).

But I would love to hear about what you thought about the Outlander PHEV, compared with your FL2, when used everyday. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

I had the same with a Thrifty car when I had something done under LR warranty. I picked it up on a Friday, they said they weren’t looking at my car until Monday so I asked the dealer about the two day hire. No problem they said, we'll just extend the hire which they did at their cost. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

When LR Assist arranged for my car (leaking injector) to be recovered to the (then) Lancaster LR dealership at Welwyn Garden City, the car I got - top end auto Insignia was the best available - was for the duration of the off road time. It was provided by Enterprise iirc.

Ive had 2 LR Assist cars for extended periods
1st one was a LR Assist Jaguar XE auto AWD for about a month - no cost to me other than fuel
2nd one was a hired in Thrifty RRS HSE Dynamic Very Happy which I had for about 10 day IIRC - no cost to me other than an extended overdraft and shares in BP Laughing

Things may be different now, but when I had a few problems with the D4 just after I bought it, warranty work under LR Approved Warranty, I got a like for like replacement vehicle with no questions asked - one time it was a brand new D4 HSE that had just been PDI'd & had 16 miles on the clock.

Well, got my Freelander back after 8 days. Glad i'd taken out approved LR warranty as the bill for replacing an injector seal was £1,143.90 + car hire for 8 days, which LR did extend. Warranty already paid for itself and 10 months still remaining.

About the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV hire car. Overall I liked it. IMO very bland / dated looking and the dashboard / center console looks likes it been designed and built by a 3 year old using lego. Loved how quiet it was and the cvt gearbox was superb. It was extremely easy to drive, felt like it floated on a bed of air. Cabin space was a lot better than the Freelander, espically for rear passengers and boot space.

Not convinced on the mpg though. I did 380 miles in it and i worked it out acurrately on the actual litres of petrol used. I did mixed driving, a lot on A roads and motorways but some town driving. It only averaged 34.5mpg, and I also managed to charge it fully on electric three times aswell.

I think if you are doing short urban journeys its probably very good, but if you do a lot of A road and motorway runs this is not the car for you. MY13 TD4 Black and White manual - Gone

Have you got any more info, like if that bill included replacement of an injector or additional parts, what the hourly labour rate was etc

I ask as it seems a lot for a relatively easy repair? My local main stealers (Lookers) rate is just shy £170 an hour but even if they charged two hours labour its a lot less than what your repair cost? 2007 TD4 XS The work horse that earns its up keep

The report only says replace injector seal no.3 and fittings

I wasn't given a breakdown of costs as it's a warranty claim with LR MY13 TD4 Black and White manual - Gone

Odd that - my local dealer gives me a copy of the itemised bill they send to LR for warranty work.
Under the 3-year warranty LR Assist give you a car for as long as it takes. I had a RRS for a week. However it is possibly different under LR Approved, which I think is franchised out to a different company. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months

FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS

Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.
