So the OBD port is where ?

Any mobile phone with bluetooth or a particular type/system ?

OBD port is underneath the steering column.

It's all a bit of a minefield. You can set up a cheap system for 20 or less which will read all the basic engine-related parameters and codes, but this will not give you access to all the other ECUs in the car and will give you very limited access to change things (basic clearing of codes if you're lucky). At the other end of the scale you can spend several hundred pounds on a Freelander-specific system which will give you access to everything.

Phones aren't straightforward either. Android devices will work with bluetooth dongles OK, but iOS devices won't pair with just any bluetooth device and thus won't work with many OBD dongles. So if you're planning to use an iOS device look for a dongle which has wifi rather than bluetooth.

A good starting point would be an Android device with a cheap bluetooth dongle and Torque Pro software - around 20-ish.

101. the 'D' pillar plastic trim is sculptured to move air over the rear window preventing road muck build up. (Design first used on the RR models)

This works on both Black trim and the rarer White trim. Rolling with laughter

I think you will find that Ford started using the D pillar spoilers some time back as the hatchback styled cars started to have problems with rear aerodymamic lift and subsequent instabilty. The FL2 has many Ford designed features.

"Ford Sierra - Early versions suffered from crosswind stability problems, which were addressed in 1985 with the addition of "strakes" (small spoilers), on the rear edge of the rubber seals of the rear-most side windows."

Best car I had for rear screen aerodynamics was the old Saab 900 - huge sloping back window, but the aerodynamics were so good it didn’t need a rear wiper. Basically, if the car was moving, the rain just didn’t land on the back window. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Ian, yes I remember the Sierra, had one as a company car. It did have two slivers on plastic 'wing' either side of the huge rear screen.

As for the FL2 'D' pillar trims ....I'm sure it was a design cue from the RR P38 ...... of which the FL2 is a 'shrunken' design.

After seeing a slightly different description elsewhere, yes it does work but needs to be done with the ignition On but without starting the engine. It sounds a chime when the belt is unplugged for the ninth time, and the audible alert has remained disabled ever since. You don't have to do this every journey. ----------

Well it doesn't work down under with black trim as least, that's one of the uses of installing compressed air!

Yes, agreed. Back in 1983 I had a Ford Sierra company car, they had only just come out and I found that overtaking big trucks on a motorway was a nightmare. It went back to the dealers and eventually Ford admitted that there was a design issue and that originally they wanted to put a rear spoiler on the car but the marketing guys had refused to allow it. The problem was eventually fixed by reducing the front tyre pressures and adding the plastic fairings around the rear windows. The fairings weren't noticed by most people but made a lot of difference. FL2s a similar bump on the corner and I have often wondered if that it there for a similar purpose. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
