The ECM is behind the center of the firewall. Just lift the plastic below the windshield, from the engine side, and you'll see it.

Don't think so... I mean I don't believe it's the hardware, but the software, like it says in the bulletin.

To be honest, happened to me twice, but each time after I've washed the engine and the alternator was soaking wet. But recovered quickly after 10-20 seconds.

No charging - because the engine RPM is not above a certain value in order for the engine ECM to tell it to start charging. Below a certain RPM will mean that when loading additionally the engine with the alternator, the engine could stall. Even if the RPM is OK, the software may think otherwise.

No reving - probably because internally the software doesn't allow it. Probably all "checks" must be on, before allowing it.

No radio - remember that when the battery level is low, the radio is turned off. And when there is no charge, for sure the battery voltage is low, below 12 volts.

Could be the issue below.

SSM48697: Freelander 2 Diesel Auto Delayed Throttle Pedal Response
Customer reports: After starting the engine and selecting Drive, followed by pressing the accelerator pedal, there is a delayed reaction from the engine and RPM remain at idle for a few seconds with the battery warning light on.
Root Cause: Start to run map speed threshold not fully achieved when FEAD fully loaded.
Action: An engine calibration update has been made available for download to resolve 'reported customer concerns' only. A software update is available on SDD from DVD125 P4 with software management pack 69 or later. The software release will only apply to Diesel Automatic vehicles.

Could this be done with a gap bt tool ?

I suppose, depending on what tool you have, but you need the correct firmware for your car.

never mind the "software up to date" quote, has it had this one which im sure is only used when customer complains , and it will be over and above the normal service software update's.

I don't think so.when I worked at a Chrysler main dealer we only did up dates as necessary. If you think about it it would mean a massive recall otherwise, in my experience the main dealers seriously struggle sometimes,i think you should ask and quote that upgrade,or ring land rover uk direct,or contact them via this forum, to see if it applies to you car.
