Whining noise in 2nd, 5th and 6th gear

Whining noise in second, fifth and sixth gear
I have a 07 se 2.2 diesel 135k. It recently had a new crank sensor fitted. Now it has developed a whining noise especially in 5th gear but noticeable in 2nd and 6th. Can anyone advise possible cause. ? No noise in neutral or with clutch pressed.

First thing to do: If you start the car and put it in gear and with the clutch depressed then you know that the gearbox and the whole drive train is not moving so if the noise is still there then its from the engine. Otherwise it's in the drive train. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

If you’ve not had it done yet, give Bell Engineering a call. A bit cheaper and they offer a drive in service. They have a good reputation on this forum.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I had a scare at the beginning of the year thinking my transfer box was on its way out, turned out to be a wheel bearing thankfully. Plus one for the post above if you’ve not yet had it done.

I’m moving soon, and turns out I’ll only be an hour away from bell engineering rather than the current 3,5 hours. Ill be getting my haldex serviced shortly

One of our earlier FL2s had a rear diff whine and when it came back they had replaced the diff bearing and the transfer box under extended warranty. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Turned out to be the gearbox in the end. A reconditioned gearbox inc fitting at an independent LR transmission specialist £1800. He found that the clutch bearing on a clutch fitted 18months ago was going too. He suspected non landrover bearing fitted previously. Anyway I am not quite over the shock but if I can get a couple of years troble free motorong on my 137k car then i can live with that.
