Heated windscreen issue

Hi all,

Having an issue with only half of the windscreen being affected by turning on the heated screen. It isn't just one strip, it's the complete drivers side. This made me think it might be be fuse, but after swapping the left and right over the same side still had an issue.

So. . is this likely to be a dodgy screen or just not connected properly? I had the screen replaced a while back but can't remember if I have used it since. I presume this is nothing to do with chips as it is a whole half of a screen.

Cheers

Haven't studied the FL2 wiring diagram, but on other LRs each half of the screen has a separate fuse and relay controlling power... Might be a starting point. 2011 MY SD4 HSE + planning some interesting stuff

Had the same problem only it was the passenger side not working. Each side of the screen is wired separately. The cause was a corroded connector below the windscreen, under the bonnet. I removed the battery cover which gave me good access, the connector was clearly visible but the drivers side might be more tricky, you may need to remove a bit more paneling. Worth a look. Cleaned it all up and now works a treat.

Sounds like a plan for the weekend whilst i'm replacing the headlight washer the missus kindly removed with a bush..

Being naive, is it easy enough to figure out what's what with the wires?

I'm no expert but the connector went to what looked like a metal strip, I think, which could clearly be seen going to the windscreen. As I said access behind the battery cover was easy but the drivers side might be a bit harder to get to. Probably worth pulling off the battery cover first to see what you're looking for.

Best of luck.

My passenger side doesn't work either, when I looked at the screen closely I could see a stone chip right over one of the heated line elements. I assumed it had just broken the circuit?

My screen was replaced in July due to a crack. The other week I put the heater on and only half cleared.

Phoned up Autoglass, seems to be a not too un-common problem and they came out and replaced it.

thanks.. will give it a go.

Hoped to this weekend, but not enough time. Managed to replace a broken headlight washer though, so at least something got done Wink just got to stop the misses driving it into bushes now. '08 Freelander 2 HSE in Stornoway Grey

Old thread I know but I might as well add my solution. It may help someone.
Driver's side not working. Removed wipers, battery cover and the scuttle cover.
Located the driver's side screen heater plug. I found that the plug was not pushed together properly.
Pushed it together and it clicked into place. I also found that the plug was not secured to and was free to swing about.
I secured it to the plastic drip tray below it with a tie-wrap.
All working now.
One tip, make a careful note of the wiper parked position before removal. Just so you can put them back correctly.
