Thanks - is that because the 'approved' warranty is much better?

2 year cover
2 year UK/Europe breakdown cover
MOT warranty

Basically the same benefits as a new car without having to pay for the extended warranty each year.

Not just that but the car SHOULD be checked over and any outstanding campaigns, software updates etc sorted.

And you get a half day experience voucher Very Happy 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

The breakdown cover would clinch it for me. If you have Landrover Assist you get a dedicated technician who understands the car and has all the right hardware to access, update, etc.
To some extent though it depends on the engine. Earlier models with the FL2 engine seem quite reliable, it's the Ingenium that has had the teething troubles as far as I'm aware. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

tell that to LR Chesterfield who swore blind that they had done the 165 point approved check on my Evoque... but failed to notice that it needed a service (advised on test drive) needed an MOT as only 3 months remained (advised on test drive) and that it had been in quite a serious accident involving bad resprays and still visible damage underneath. Needed close to £7000 of warranty work within 6 months and still wasn't right. They then took advantage of my stress and sold me a replacement FL2 with an expired MOT (which I advised them of on test drive).

not all dealers are as scrupulous as others or as diligent. But if it wasn't for LR Assist (who were outstanding!) and LR Doncaster who also brilliant I would have never touched another LR product again.

Rog I read the above last night and predicted a few words coming from you. I still find it hard to believe a full blown dealer could have done that. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Did you ever get the feeling that LR prices reflect their "target" owner, rather than the actual cost price of an item?

Rang our local LR dealer for a space saver wheel for the Disco Sport £389 Shocked OK how much for the 18" space saver for the Freelander 2 ...... £230, but we can give you a discount on the Freelander part sir.

Now here's the fun bit, they are the same item, a bare 4Bx18 wheel and a tyre fitted by the dealership.

How come the Disco part is more expensive - it comes complete with a polystyrene insert and a jack, so £170 for a polystyrene block that I don't want and a £20 scissor jack! I have 7 seats (as do the vast majority of DS) so the polystyrene block will not fit, why can't I just get the wheel - because LR don't list it for the DS, you just have to know that the Freelander one is the same. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

I have recently started thinking about my FL2 replacement and I have been researching the DS. There seems to be a few issues, the main ones being:

poor quality welds on the B pillar
oil dilution and extra oil servicing (I guess that's with the Ingenium engine)
Auto gearboxes needing software fixes.

Does anyone know if these issues were fixed by JLR and what vintage of DS should I be looking for? (or should I get one with the old 2.2 engine)
Any feedback welcome. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I have just been pricing one.

A landmark version with cheaper road tax for 5 years compared to a HSE but virtually the same car can be had with a 10.6% discount (subject to pretending to take finance) and sit on it for a day and the service pack gets thrown in.

That said a new updated DS is coming mid summer I understand but its not full off earth shattering changes. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

The new Discovery Sport is on an updated platform and is said to have an improved ride. Also Hybrid and Plug in versions will become available. Could be the start of a more economic 4x4 JLR. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

I can only speak for the 2017 version ignium engine auto.
I have heard about the early cars creaking B pillar - mines quiet as a lamb, so maybe only the early ones were affected, got to remember people were paying £40k+ for these cars, so the slightest fault would be massively annoying.

with the ignium engine LR promised 21K mile servicing, it's a lie, 10k if you do regular motorway driving, more like 6k if you do a normal amount of town work. The issue is diesel injection in the exhaust stroke (every 250 miles) to burn off the soot in the emissions kit fitted to the exhaust. The older 2.2 engines do not suffer from this.

The ignium engine does suit the 9 speed auto -mines been fine since I had it -25k miles, TEST DRIVE a 2.2 auto before you buy, as it might not suit the 9 speed auto. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Whilst searching for diesel problems with the DS I came across this thread on Mumsnet of all places. Neatly sums up the problem with Euro 6 diesels SUVs and JLRs advice. No mention of the balance shaft wear issues.

Ok just got mine back from it's 4th service at 40k.
Dealer reset the service interval and delivered it back to my workplace, a distance of less than 12 miles.
Checked "distance to next service" and it's 19850 miles - so it's counted down 1150 miles in less than 12 - anyone else noticed that the counter doesn't start at 21k? Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

My Son has just got a, "Landmark", and sitting in it I was reminded how low down you sit in it.
One of the biggest likes for me is the seat height in the LR2.

It was a key selling point for many a decade with Land Rover.

Unfortunately, egotistical maniacs in design have decided that this harks back to the "old" way of doing things, and we must now need to feel as close to the ground as possible.....you know.....like downtrodden....which we are daily under the current regime.

Vote Farage! Thumbs Up MY13 HSE Lux.......faultless since new.

Surely the DS is only about 17mm lower roof height than the FL2? Not sure about the actual H Point which is the one that makes the eyeline difference, but it cannot be that much. Regards

David

Lovely i6 has now gone, but not me......

Please let me know if anything in my post offends you, as I may wish to offend you again......
