Air Filter

Hi All
Thought I would post a comment regarding Air Filters.

Long story short, we had a round trip of 1,200 miles last week from Fife, Scotland to Berkshire and back.

Been disappointed with MPG avg. Of 28.5 so was expecting 35 on a good run only got 29.5 (actual brim-to-brim not computer)
So thought I'd check the air filter.... Totally bunged up with soot and dead
creatures.
Considering we had purchased from a well known national chain that boasts a 114 point Q check it obviously didn't include the air filter!

Replaced with a new one and got 32.5 coming home!!
3 mpg more......

Next step, fit Synergy 3 from Ronbox and strip and clean out the EGR...

Might get close to LR's avg claim of 33mpg or 41 on a good run.
Plus an extra 25hp and more torque too, not that its that bad!

Will report back when done.
Cheers

There’s a rubber drain in the bottom of the air cleaner box make sure it’s not blocked.

It’s not a rubber drain! It’s a hole covered from the bottom by a circular rubber disc that hopefully closes when under suction but allows water that has made its way in through the air inlet in the wing out when not under suction. It’s not uncommon for the rubber disc to be missing and it’s not available separately.

When was the air filter last replaced?

I just did 17,700 km around half of Australia & had spare air filter with me just in case it was required, if the air filter is full of crap it is doing it's job!

I tell my mechanic to replace the air filter every service whether it is required or not!

I got the car serviced just before our 18k trip & as soon as we get back as it was 6k over the 12k service requirement. But about 14,000 km were at 95 kph plodding along the national highway like every other Grey Nomad with next to no stress on the car. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

No idea when the last one was done before I got it, I suspect a 'long time before too'!!
Agreed, if full of crud its working... But past a certain
point not Smile
At £15 its not enough to warrant leaving.

Cheers

with ref to filters and service,i always have the lot changed, for the sake of a few extra quid it must help the running of the engine in general.
a friend with a new disco sport(nice)told me the stealers told him service interval is 2 years Shocked
a mate down the road got his 2009 hse fl/2 last year and was told by the selling dealer(bodge it and leg it)the car would be serviced before he picked it up,we drove back home 85 miles all seemed ok,i had a look under the lid and it had been steam cleaned Question I then checked the airfilter and it had a fitting date from a main stealer which was FIVE YEARS AGO !!!!stamped on it,we went straight to a local garage and put the new one in and the difference was amazing.
I have never in my life seen an airfilter with so much black gooey crud inside.
he got on to the dealer had some serious speaks and got some dosh back. gone
P38 v8 auto no problems, great howle from exhausts when giving it welly

Hi, I have also recently purchased a 2008 HSE Auto. I had a Ron Box fitted on my previous car (rover 75) and was very pleased. I am now thinking of getting a box for the Fl2. Have you got yours yet? If so what do you think?

Save your money for keeping it running as you will need it.

Are you going to tell your insurance company ? If not you take the risk of a total loss even in a no fault accident. Tell them and they may well up your premium wiping out any slight potential economy saving as you have made a modification.

Keep it simple and keep it longer Wink FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years
