Having searched for 19" tyres can I ask for some advice

Apologies in advance.....i have searched........
Just picked up a new to me Freelander Sport LE which comes with 19" wheels
The existing tyres are definitely due for the bin but what to replace with....
I bought a Freelander as I can fit a rack to a towbar to enable me to carry my off road motorbike around, still have to get a towbar but thats another story. I know some of you guys love some green lanes too but I'm happier on 2 wheels than 4 for the muddy stuff. Inevitably the Freelander will go in some muddy car parks, I could really do with some help choosing.
Not intending on doing a huge mileage, from reading Pirelli Verde All Seasons seem ok at £150ish a corner fitted, or would Grabber AT3s be better, seem a touch more expensive, or would Wrangler All Seasons be another alternative. From reading the Pirellis and Wranglers may be a bit noisier when worn ?
Any advice would be appreciated.

I would go with the General Grabbers if available in your size, you will not be disappointed. Thumbs Up

Ive long been a fan of General Grabbers. I ran their AT2 then AT on my Discovery 2 for many thousands of miles, they are a great durable long lasting tyre.
My wife has a VW Tiguan and is running General Grabber GT on it. ts the second full set on it, the first set lasted 40k miles.
I currently have Goodyear Efficientgrips that came on my Freelander. Cant wait to get rid of them and get a decent AT tyre on it, I am considering the Pirelli Verde AT option as well, this looks to be a good tyre and gets good reviews as does the Cooper Discoverer AT/3.
In all likelihood I'll go for the GG AT3 though, price and durability they are hard to beat Thumbs Up Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

I fitted GG AT3's to my wife's Freelander and I run them on my Range Rover, pleased with them, a little road noise due to 50/50 pattern, but got enough dig off road

Can I ask why you dislike the Efficientgrips. I have them on mine as they were on it when I bought it. I find them quiet with plenty of grip and although they were not new when I got the car 20,000miles on they are not showing any noticeable wear. I would have them again in an instant! Smile

I have found that they wore quickly, really noticeably by 13000 miles, down to about 3mm. I cant see them making 20000 miles.
I found the same with Goodyear Wranglers that came on my Disco Td5.
I guess the extra tread life is a balance with grip but I was always more than happy with the GG performance. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Thanks for the help Thumbs Up

Ive rung my local tyre shop who always seem competitive and they can source Pirellis for £150 each and Grabbers for £153 each so very similar prices, they did say that despite the Grabbers only showing as 1db noisier than the Pirellis they thought the Grabbers would be significantly noisier, would this be a fair comment ??

Cheers

You could also check out Vredestein. They do a whole range of tyres in 235x55 R19, including the Quatrac 5 all season.

I currently use Wintrac Xtreme 4 and after more than 22k kms winter and summer use they are still at 6-7mm all round. I rate Vredestein highly. driving on the right side

My wife had some Genral Grabber At's on her Fl2 for a few years , they wear well but by are they noisy . A work mate has them on his Rav4 and they are very noisy on that . We chased noises on the car for a while and it turned out to be the At's , they were removed and Michelin Latitude cross fitted and the car was transformed. I wouldn't like to imagine how noisy 19" General Grabber At's are , the Gt's on mine are a good tyre and with very little road/tyre noise , the main question is would I buy them again and the answer would be yes .

Having been a loyal Conti user for some years, I fitted Avon ZX7 (235/55R19V rated C-A-70db) this time.

A bit cheaper than the Contis but I am not displeased at all with them. They are quiet, feel very sure footed and are barely showing any wear yet but they are only in their second summer season - wheels are changed for winter - so early days yet.

I replaced the worn contis on my wife's little i10 city car with 15" Nexens - not Unhappy with them either. Perhaps I have suddenly become anti-conti of late Smile
