Freelander 2 door lock removal?

Hello, my nsf door lock has given up, so today I tried to take the lock out to replace, I got as far as unbolting the mechanism from inside the door but it is very tight in there and couldn’t remove the 2 cables that are attached to the outside handle!
Tried to take the exterior handle off so that I could take the whole unit off and disconnect cables easier but cannot figure out how to take the handle off either so I am stuck! Can anybody help me with this?
Thanks
D

I think you have to or its easier to take out the window mechanism, there's some step by step instructions on this forum and a YouTube video. MY13 HSE LUX Aintree Green

Yes I got the window mechanism out, but couldn’t figure out how to get the cables off the lock mechanism!
Have checked out all the youtube videos and everything on this site but still unsure how to get cables off and the door handle off! Looks like it’ll have to go to garage Sad

I think you have to remove the handle to disconnect the cables from what I remember. Theres a screw holding it to the inside of the door and you have to find the hole on the inside of the door which is covered with tape (or something like) if you pull that off and you should be able to get a screw driver in to remove it.

Digdil, Yes I got as far as taking the door handle key lock off and the screw from inside door that holding back of handle.
But could not work out next procedure! Do you remember? I think it needs to slide backward or forward but its all a bit plasticy and worried about breaking something. Thanks

I try, I think there something under the handle as well so that has to come off. The handle has to slide backwards it doesn't require much force and you should break it.

The handle can be a pig to get back on. I found holding it in place on the outside of the door then find metal clip inside the door and push inwards so the handle sides under it. If that makes any sense.

Thanks Digdil, hopefully someone will come along and explain exactly how the door handle can be removed, don’t want to break it experimenting!

I recall that when I did this, I levered off the small piece that does not move when you pull the handle and promptly broke it - cost me £9 to replace. I think that you may need to remove that piece - good luck. FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green

There is a screw inside behind a round 'sticker' (torx) but you have to remove the window regulator to expose the screw. Then back to the outside, a screw behind the small static part of the handle (prise gently) then gently prise the cover off the larger handle. There is a 'plug' (the receiver for the internal screw) at the other end of the handle. Then you can jiggle the handle section loose.
Changed 4 door latches across two Freelander 2s They don't seem interested in fixing this weakness.
