Satnav Screen has gone blank (white)

On starting up this morning, my satnav screen came up blank white. Been working perfectly till now.

Did usual of locking/unlocking to see if that cleared it but it just came up the same.

Then after I'd locked and left it 20 mins, it came up OK working as normal. Well I suppose its proving its a real Land Rover!

Is this something others have experienced please?

Many thanks,

Mac

The power on mine keeps going off for a second then coming back on a right pain when you're taking a call or its 3 in 10 on pop master.

Your fault must be really annoying.

Especially if it never stays faulty for long enough to track down the cause.

I have had similar once, when I was messing with the CCF having just updated the software. Tried a few fixes but in the end remembered something StuartC had said, locked it and went for a brew. When I came back all was good and it has been fine since.

The CCF is constantly streamed onto the CANbus, 8 bits at a time with a gap of around 50ms or so between each set of 8 bits. This means it can take 30s to get all the configuration around the bus. It's possible in the case of a white screen that high bus load means the screen didn't get a full configuration list, it should fall back on the stored list but sometimes something gets corrupted and the screen locks up.

I suspect it won't happen again.

In the case where a screen appears to constantly loose power (repeatedly with less than 3minutes between resets) this for me is normally caused by a CANbus issue and not a power supply issue. I've seen this happen for corrupt or missing CCF or missing ignition messages or a number of other missing signals.

Most of my knowledge is from playing with a screen on my desk, so there are a tonne of things I don't know. I'm no expert, but a dedicated tinkerer.

Cheers Vanny, very helpful. You know a hell of a lot more about how it all works inside than I do!

Your explanation could well be the cause as I think the bonnet was unlocked when it happened (had been jump starting son's car). So maybe the "bonnet open" message stole some bits from the screen render as you suggested. Anyway I'm unlikely ever to want to use the satnav with the bonnet open!

Not happened since, so all is now good.

Cheers
Mac
