Steering wheel controls

Had car (Freelander 2 XS 2013) serviced yesterday (and probably unconnected) but the mode and volume controls for the audio unit and the voice control and handsfree controls on steering wheel (so top left and bottom right controls) now no longer work. Had this happen before in January and LR dealer sorted it, however , rather than have to take it back to dealer, anyone got any ideas on the cause/fix for this ? Cruise control works fine. Thanks in anticipation

Not the same, but my steering wheel audio controls threw a wobbler tonight - the volume up button changed radio channel or cd track. The phone controls also took a long time to respond. Seems ok now, so hopefully just a blip

I found that by “knocking” the top of the left hand side panel on steering wheel resolved issue temporarily 😂 However , now it’s dead as a dodo ! So it’s booked in under warranty for repair, I’m guessing the main connection is via the top left which the. Links to bottom right as top right and bottom left controls are fine. So it’s either a connection or the control is knackered is my guess. Thanks anyway

Did it again today. Not used car for a bit. Volume down made vol go up. Green phone button made vol go down ! Restart and all ok. Wonder if it because it's hot. Don't use cruise control so not checked but garage who replaced my clutch master cylinder noted they had checked cruise control after cylinder replacement. Don't know why necessary? Anyway , I know how to use the controls on the stereo unit itself if necessary. Anybody else had this weird behaviour

Ta

The garage probably checked that the Clutch Pedal disengaged the Cruise Control.

Surprised that you don't use Cruise Control, handy for helping avoid speeding tickets amongst other uses. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Cheers Ian. The sort of traffic I drive in (m62 to Leeds ) it's not worth it 😭 I only used it once or twice on my last car as well on a couple of journeys.

Still behaving strangely or not at all on some occasions. Think I will have to use the controls on the unit itself for peace of mind Confused

Mine has been in today. Transpired there is a technical service bulletin issued by LR in relation to this issue which is to do with the “gel” covering the circuit board behind control. All sorted free of charge as a result and re gelled as it’s a known issue but not one they consider worthy of a full recall.

Interesting. Mines very intermittent. Works at moment. Haven't been to a LR dealer for almost 2 years now..not sure if you could just go to any main dealer to check? Or whether an Indy could check

Might be worth a phone call to the service department of the main dealer and see what they say. I’ve tried googling it but can’t licate it but definitely saw the print out for it when I took it in and the service rep confirmed it as known issue.

Mine hasn't gone dead though and now it's working fine, so if it was a coating on the PCB, I'd have though it' either works or it doesn't. Never heard of gels on PCBs either. I try to avoid main dealers now after having brake pads fitted unnescessarily. Etc etc. I'll ask my Indy cos it's due for service in a few weeks. Ta

Still having some issues with the steering wheel audio controls - sometimes they work, sometimes not , and all this can be in one journey ie no rebooting of the electronics. Last night they didn't work for quite a few attempts and then they started working. Once they start working , they seem to keep working on the same journey.
At least there are still controls on the stereo head unit itself which work !

My understanding when I read the Service Bulletin is that the 'gel' helps to make the contacts between some connectors. If it was manufactured with only a small amount, it shrinks with age, goes thin and runs with heat and gets forced out under pressure when you press the buttons.

Ok. Don't know any main dealers any more...and they usually try to fleece you just walking into the premises! It's like going to the dentist. A free vehicle health check will reveal £ £ of repairs! So you can see my resistance to them, whether the service bulletin is genuine or not

Old thread I know.
My new to me Metropolis is displaying this exact problem - was ok when I first had it a couple of weeks ago, but now playing up.
It's a 2014 car - will Land Rover still remedy it as per the tech bulletin I wonder.
