Scotland 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 GS Auto Mauritius Blue

My SD 4 is approaching 40K miles, and still drives straight and true, and doesn't have excessive wallow, and if I have to hit the brakes hard it stops in a straight line.

Find a good LR Indy near you, I'm sure someone on this forum can provide you a recommendation, and have your looked at. Updated- Waiting for a Scotland v England 6 Nations home win. 24th Feb 2018

Alsy,no need for apologies as you haven't upset me ,just welcomed you as I do for every first poster but reading your pre-edited post it looked to me you were heading back to X Trail. HeyHO.

On a personal note, mine drives straight ,doesn't wallow, handles well and brakes in a straight line.

Don't let which could be a small repairable fault get in the way of what is a great drive Thumbs Up If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

It’s just a comparative thing . If I hop out of our Subaru Outback into the FL2 , for the first few miles on the twisty A and B roads It’s like driving a boat . It was even more noticeable when I was driving company cars going German sports saloons to the FL2 . However when I settle into FL2 mode the driving experience is very smooth and relaxing If the FL2 is your daily driver and it doesn’t suit your driving style or requirements , don’t waste any money trying to make it what it isn’t , just get shot , and buy something that suits Thumbs Up 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Get some smaller wheels and decent tyres.

Our FL2 is becoming more twitchy with age and with no leaks on the dampers its not easy to defiantly come down on them but this warm weather makes it more pronounced. Decision time is coming about replacing the rear ones to try and sort it out and doing it in the drive has little appeal as I would need to get hold of a much longer crowbar and spring compressors just for starters.

Anyone got any recommendations for top quality rear dampers. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

When mine were leaky I had genuine ones fitted and they were fine Thumbs Up

Also replaced the rear anti roll bar. The one I put on had a suffix B on the part number where as the one I took off had a suffix A. Replaced bushes with polybushes whilst it was off.

Those 2 things made a huge difference to the handling.

I think prior to my ownership, the vehicle was used for towing a caravan quite a bit. Discovery 4 HSE - Aintree Green

sometimes the truth is inconvenient or perhaps more likely I am a bit biased - love a good Nissan - just so far found the x-trail to be a better all rounder & no squeaks, rattles or break downs - in a year with the FR2 had all of them - maybe I'm unlucky - anyhow not to oversell the x trail or undersell the freelander 2 different beasts & winter was a lot easier in the freelander -

As you seem to have had your FL2 for a year, is your handling problem always been there, or has it got worse recently?

My FL2 is a similar age to yours and it seems to me to handle, ride, and sound like new. I take it you are on 19 inch wheels, which give quite good cornering grip, although you have to bear in mind that the FL2 is rather tall, and the Dynamic Stability Control will interfere with over zealous cornering to stop you getting anywhere near toppling the car over. On trying to hard on a large motorway roundabout I found resulted in a floating feeling as the power was eased and the outer rear brake applied.

I now use a slow in, accelerate out, method of cornering and allow the ample torque of the motor to pull me back up to speed.

Both my wife and myself find the FL2 a superbly comfortable cruiser, and it needs to be driven as if you are in your best comfy living room chair.

PS Have a look around your car for the cause of the squeaks and rattles, you might find the broken suspension item. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Hi I also have a handling problem with my FL2, sounds a lot like yours. The slight wobble in the steering that quickly develop into a pronounced weave on the road I get that on any flat The thing I get with mine is that if you just lift off the power it goes away, I don’t brake to stop it happening with. It can on out of the blue I have had the FL2 for a year and a half and it just started.

I am looking in the transmission at the moment going to change the oil in the transfer box. Not sure why but a friend was telling me a tale about his X3 he described the same sort of issue but not so pronounced as mine, and at £14 for the 1L of oil I will give it a go. All the suspension and driveshaft are in good order; front end had a full rebuild 2 years ago, so I am happy with that. I am heading down the oil change route as the Land Rover has 210,000 and I don’t thing it has ever be done it can harm any way.

Thankfully I don’t do a lot of mileage in this Fl2, I have others! They are fine I am just in the process of fitting Bilsteni to my commercial and a front end rebuild. This is a failure of a part or an item on the car not a handling style

I will keep you informed and follow the thread

Ian
