What is causing this noise please?

SWMBO has come home saying car is making a funny noise so went to investigate.

Sounds like a demented duck but on investigation is coming from a component on the top front of the engine block below the top hose & behind the fan motor. Have tried taking a photo but not very clear...

Noise is a dry scraping noise that sounds like something rotating without lubrication.

Any ideas please?

I concur with m'learned friend above.

The nylon gear gets stripped over time and it can only get noisier, never quieter. It is a fairly simple DIY job to replace the throttle body though and one of the not eye wateringly expensive parts - probably around £100 plus vat for a new one - I wouldn't bother fitting a used part from eBay etc.

One thing to be wary of, I had a throttle body changed under warranty on an earlier FL2 of ours and when I drove away I noticed that the oil pressure light had come on. Immediately took it back and they eventually found that they had dislodged a connector just underneath the throttle body. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
