Should the cooling fan ONLY come on when the engine is warm?

Hi,

I've just had the air-con re-gassed on my Freelander 2 by a Halfords-type outfit here in France. Since then I've noticed that the cooling fan starts up as soon as the air-con is switched on, even when the engine is cool. Is this right, or have they mixed up some wiring?

Nope. That’s correct. The fan should come on as soon as the a/c is switched on. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.

From what I read, I understand the fans come on if the car is stationary. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 76k+ miles) (MY2015)
