Health check advice?!

Recently had battery replaced at my main dealership, and they included full valet & health check. Only "red" item was front brake discs (not pads) which they said were now worn to 24mm when min is 26mm. Does that sound like a red warning to you, or a service dept work generation tactic?! Life is not a dress rehearsal!

We had this when we traded in a Porsche in the family and were told that the rear discs were below minimum and they showed us that the min thickness is actually stamped on the edge of the disc and proceeded to demonstrate the actual thickness with a micrometer. In that case only about 2 mm of wear was allowed from new. I haven't checked FL2 discs but I guess they might be similar. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Yes, 26mm is the minimum thickness. Once they go below that thickness, they cannot dissipate heat efficiently and are at risk of boiling your brake fuild (resulting in brake fade) or warping/cracking the disc.

*As long as they’ve measured them correctly! Whistle Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Next time you pass ATS, Halfords etc just pop in & ask them to measure the discs for you.

To be fair, I think that depends on the mileage (and type of mileage) you cover, the quality of the discs fitted, the type of pads fitted and the way you drive. I cover 24k to 30k miles per year, a lot of which is on small, twisty, hilly roads and would be surprised if I was able to get 2 years out of a set of disks. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

will have owned car for four years this october and have covered 30k so far.rear discs and pads were fitted at landrover dealership.and new rear pads on last service.wife is the main driver and drives like miss daisy.just seems as though the dealers like to generate extra work when not necessary.

Mine went to main dealers once they advised a new rear wiper arm and wiper at £65 as it was "seized" I declined and "repaired" it with a squirt of WD40.

health check on mine diagnose that my coolant was set incorrectly and recommended a full flush and refill by them for £85 +vat Shocked
they failed to notice they had reinstalled the headlights incorrectly, and 2 slack steering gaitors underneath and a perished CV Boot all of which failed MOT a month after the health check.

get the discs checked elsewhere to be sure, the LR dealer may be genuine but then again.................. Whistle
