Ha ha, Jeez, so this car is driving me mad this weekend! And not just with its starting issues.

Drove the car OK this morning (it's an SI6 3.2 petrol), stopped for an hour, started the car to go out again. And the car is making a godawful metallic scraping sound (video below).



Ran it for a couple of minutes while I popped off the engine cover and grabbed my phone to record it.

Then turned it off and restarted - and nothing, back to normal.

My wife thinks the cars possessed.

Sounds like its coming from the accessory belts or maybe the alternator - its really hard to pinpoint as it only does it intermittently.

Does aircon switched on/off make a difference? Same goes for moving steering wheel to see if the steering pump is affected. Then switch a few electrical loads on (heated rear window, headlights etc) and try that one for alternator load. Is it affected by engine temp? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Thanks dorsetfreelander. I thought to do the same. And no, no difference with twisting wheel or putting lights on. Didn't try air con though.

Its a , cos when you think of something to try, the noise isn't there.
