2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Orkney Grey

Battery light in console

I had disconnected the battery as I was away for 19 days.
Now the battery lights up after 15-20 seconds from starting the engine on my 2007 Freelander F2.

I still drove back to my house in Spain from Malaga airport, some 200 miles.

The battery was flat a couple of months ago.
I pulse charged it and it has been OK ever since.

I did charge the battery again overnight and it started easily this morning.

The fan belt has been changed recently.

Any ideas.

How old is the battery if it's 5/6 year's old I would look at replacing it

Archie, I have fitted a new battery.
Same problem Battery lights up in console 15 to 20 seconds after start up.

If the battery light will turn off after some time, that wire is not the culprit.
As that wire is a digital communication channel between the engine ECU and alternator, if that wire is interrupted, then the battery light will always be on.
Question:
If in that time when the battery light is on, you try to put it in Drive and leave, is the car responding to the throttle pedal?

I have driven over 300 miles now with the battery light on. The alternator is also still charging the battery. TerryW
