A new noise?

Hi all, not had much to report since my DIY service a few months back, everything ok, well almost.

Actually, before I serviced mine there was the start of a noise from under the bonnet. It's a bit of a rumble/grumble which is engine speed related in as much as when I come to a stop, the grumble runs on a little, almost like an over-run. My thoughts are power steering perhaps? Or, alternator. I don't think it's aircon related as that is having it's own issue at present (I think it needs a regas and as such has been switched off for the past few months).

Any thoughts? 2010MY 2.2 e4 (gone but, not forgotten)

Throttle Body, do a search as many previous failures and ideas about replacement. Did mine a few months ago as I had heard the odd rattle on switching off.

Typically available like this:

If you do it yourself (not too bad) look for a rubber bung to switch over from old to new as I at first did not notice it. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Ok, thanks Largered for your reply. What am I looking for exactly? Leaks, breaks... I'm not overly familiar with turbo diesel engines so a bit in the sooty dark I am Smile 2010MY 2.2 e4 (gone but, not forgotten)

Thanks YB. So does the TB makes similar noises whilst running, I thought the tell tale was a shudder when when switching off?

I'll have a look at the TB posts/threads. 2010MY 2.2 e4 (gone but, not forgotten)

I only have one car not a garage full so can only be 100% accurate on what I find with that, the rest is mixed blessings of reading what others feel have happened to them plus other old experiences and if you are getting differing symptoms dig deeper.

A year ago I started chasing down a reduced power fault and purchased as sensor for £60 off ebay after reading up on here and it did not cure the problem, gave it to indie and it cost me £500. Old EGR valve looked perfect (not carbon'ed up so was it electrical ?) he had fitted but I noticed some new turbo pipe so still no idea if I was given a misdiagnosis or not. No one on here could confirm what the fault codes were saying so it is in the end trail and error and sometimes going outside this circle

£100 for a T.B. that you probably need anyway at some stage (read that advert how many sold) is not the end of the World as a starting point if it does becomes a game of trial and error or you could go to dealer who will charge you that to put his computer on and still probably get it wrong. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

possible alternator free wheeling pulley, you will see the belt flapping about if you get someone to rev it ,the tensioner vibrates on overrun.

I think this noise may be related to the AC system. I have already had suspicions that perhaps the refrigerant may need topping up as the compressor was grumbling somewhat. But I have tried several 5hings but as soon as I switch off the heating/ventilation system the noise disappears. Is this a possibility perhaps? 2010MY 2.2 e4 (gone but, not forgotten)

I’d go for alternator clutch pulley too, had the noise on mine it’ll start doing it stood at traffic lights etc soon ! Easy fix just replace the pulley about half hour to do.

A new noise? - Sorted

Well it was the aircon. My brother had a friend with a FL2 and a similar noise. The stealer he took it to had him in for all kinds of parts to change, in the end the A.C. needed a regas. I did mine this afternoon and all is good.

Thanks for your replies everyone 2010MY 2.2 e4 (gone but, not forgotten)
