Change rear (boot) 12v socket to work ignition on

Hi Guys,

Is there a simple way to change the way the rear (boot) 12v socket works? I have a Dashcam plugged in but over time it will drain the battery. I've had a quick look at the wiring diagrams and it seems to take a completely different route to the front drivers socket.

Any quick fixes...?

I'm pretty sure that mine goes off with the ignition because on my last European trip I had a cooler plugged into it and it kept stopping shortly after I'd turned off the engine. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

Mine also goes off with the ignition - sort of!

It doesn't go off straight away but when the interior lights go off - which can give the impression it isn't ignition switched. Easiest way to check is to plug a lamp or something with an LED into the socket, then lock the car and wait a few seconds.

I have a 2009 GS.

I changed the 12V aux socket for a twin USB set of sockets ....... which has a blue LED ..... that shows its 'ON'
KEPT the original wiring thou.

Locked the vehicle two hours ........ LED indicator ...... still 'ON'

??????

So to change this, you need to find a Switched Live from the boot fuse box and rewire it.
I know there is a Switched Live in the box ......... as I have used it already.

Good Luck

Pre MY13 FL2s have simpler logic to their wiring and although the forward 12v outlet on the consul is ignition controlled, the rear consul socket and the boot supply outlet is permanently on.
MY13 onwards the control logic gradually powers down all ancilliaries in stages and the boot outlet powers down after a short while. There is no permanment supply on these later FL2s.

(thanks grod you are right about the rear consul socket, and I have edited above) FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

No problem keeping the beers cold...you can sit there and drink them while you re-charge your battery Smile

Just to confirm guys...the rear console and boot sockets remain on all the time on my MY10 sd4 HSE. Only the front console socket switches off. Just been outside and the rear window has a nice frost-free area above to the dashcam...it's always on.

I can confirm that it stayed on in my 59 plate TD4e. But on my new(er) MY13 it goes off. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

Australia

The rear socket on the console (just left of the driver's seat) of my TD4 (MY11) is constantly on too.

I fitted a Power Magic Pro for my BlackVue dash-cam to prevent battery drain.
