Exhaust type rattle at 900 rpm

The car (2011, manual, TD4, 76k miles) has recently developed what sounds like an exhaust rattle from under the front of the car. It happens when the engine is just above tickover at about 900rpm and the car doesn't have to be moving so you can replicate it by blipping the throttle slightly in neutral and it also shows up as you pull away. Above about 1000 rpm no problems and the car pulls like a train. So far i have-

1 checked air intake and pipework and everything easily visible under the bonnet but the sound is coming from behind and down the back of the engine so-

2. I have put it up on stands and crawled under and checked the heat shield over the first box and that looks OK but I can't easily follow the exhaust pipe up to the engine.

I might just take it into Kwik Fit and ask them to put it up on a lift and check the exhaust but any suggestions would be welcome. I have done a forum search on rattles and there are lots of hits unfortunately. LR dealer is 35 miles away so trying to avoid a visit. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto no real problems

EGR is in that area, along with turbo, both have moving parts that could rattle at lower speeds.
Hope it's something trivial Thumbs Up

Hi Dorset. Any idea about the source of rattling. Mine rattles periodically on idle.It can be connected with seasonal temperaturÄ™ changes

No I didn't resolve it. I replaced the car in March and luckily the dealer didn't even ask to drive the car -or even look inside it. I did a lot of crawling about and improved it a bit by bending bits of thin metal heatshield but fundamentally it was still there. I was thinking of crawling underneath with the engine going but you really need it on a ramp with someone inside blipping the throttle. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto no real problems

You might have to do the crawling around under it,as you know a cold engine will give off more vibration and things like exhaust rubbers that have a bit of wear will move a little until it warms up.
I had this a few years ago on my second tdv6 disco,3 and it was sorted with new rubbers.
If the car runs as normal when hot, chances are it's something simples. gone
P38 v8 auto no problems, great howle from exhausts when giving it welly
