Did you perhaps test drive a tractor?
I test drive a car a few months ago having already paid a holding deposit over the phone.
I didn’t buy the car, got my deposit back no problems, end of story.
Until a nice new V5C registration document plopped on my door mat showing me as the registered owner of said car.
The implications of which could be quite disastrous.
I contacted the selling garage who admitted confusing me with the actual purchaser but he wanted me to send the V5C to him. I said no as I suspected he would just put it in for a change of keeper details, which would have still left me showing as a previous keeper.
I returned said V5C to DVLA with a carefully worded letter denying any and all ownership.
After aprox. five weeks I got a letter back from them confirming receipt of my letter.
Very worrying really. If the vehicle is used to run up tolls, charges or in commission of crime it could be a real pain proving ones innocence.
Hope you get it sorted okay. Derek Hill

Not far from the plot Delboy.

I registered at a auction in Harrogate in September and said tractor was there. Auctioneers want me to send in the V5 to them but its been sent to DVLA. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I got the opposite - dealer (presumably) sent the wrong address to DVLA and I didn't get a V5c. After the appropriate time I asked for a replacement and thought no more about it.
BUT in the meantime I had forgotten to register the new car with Dartford Crossing, and incurred a penalty charge. DVLA sent them the wrong address, and they sent the PCN to a local building site. A whole year later I started getting threatening letters from a debt collecting company.
Cue much hassle trying to put in an appeal through a government department who don't read their mail, won't talk to you in person and don't answer their phone, with meanwhile ever-more-threatening letters from said debt collectors. Finally sorted (I hope) today with a letter from DartPay saying they as it's my first PCN they will cancel it if I pay the £2.50 charge. Which I have done.
I suspect this has cost the DfT (ie us what pay the taxes) a few hundred quid in time and fees. As well as my diesel for a trip to TEC in Northampton only to find that they won't talk to you in person (officially - I did actually get some advice from a very nice lady coming back from her lunch break!)
There are a few morals in there somewhere... Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.
