Retrofit reverse camera (13MY Onwards)

Do I need a reversing camera? Probably not.
Do I need to pointlessly upgrade the electrical system of an XS model to that of a HSE, damn right I do!

So I've got myself a camera (from an RRS) and a 5m fakra. Awaiting next payday to afford the replacement wiring harness for the tailgate, I thought I would check the fitment of the camera. And it dawned on me that the tailgate doesn't have a hole for the camera.

Took the handle/spoiler/trim thingy off, and aside from it being incorrectly installed, I found these tool witness marks where I would expect the camera to be.

So before I take a dremel to the car, has anyone else fit a genuine camera to a facelift car and found they had to hit it with a cutting disk?

A search has yielded many questions about retrofitting a camera, but no guide.

hi

You have to cut by following the lines and also follow the camera support, I have done and there is nothing to complicate

markflickr,

The camera is DH52-19G490-AE from the following eBay link

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-Rover-Range...3223509400

I do intend to document the install as except for a mention on a Russian forum, i've not seen the retrofit documented. It won't be quick though . . .

Willy 974,

Thanks for the confirmation. it is appreciated. I will have to be on best behaviour and do a good job of cutting out.

I doubt the dealer will notice as they haven't noticed the audio upgrade or any of the infotainment tinkering . . .

You will find it really handy once you have been using it a few weeks. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Where did you get the 5m Fakra cable from, I see a few but am unsure which one is the correct one?

I had to book an MOT today and asked them (Terrain Vehicles, Bexhill, Landy Indy) about having a reverse camera fitted. They hadn't done one before but a quick research suggests that it needs a GIF for it all to display on the screen.

They also said that, if you choose it as an option during the build, LR uses a different wiring loom. So my thoughts of the wiring being in the door already to plug into is wrong.

It's all getting more difficult than I imagined. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

I looked inside the tailgate, the wiring loom is not already there (on the XS) but you can buy a plug in wiring loom, LRPARTS do one i believe, its about £50 but its surely better to have the proper one.
So essentially from what i gather, this is what you need:
Camera
Wiring loom for tailgate
Fakra cable
CCF editing to enable camera in system

MY13 on-wards with the Gen2.1 infotainment screen does not need a GVIF interface.

I dont think the harness will be in the tailgate on any car but i understand the body side harness has the required give away connectors. Still need to prove that out though!

For the FAKRA cable, I've just bought a blue ended one, It should be 'bordeux' violet but I have access to a lot of connectors and they are movable from one cable to another.
