Bob,

I agree for someone with a few cars the cost difference is trivial.

However for the manufacturers (i.e. Land Rover) the cost is significant because of the volume.

When I research a change like 11S to 202 I like to know it it was done to make the product better or it was done to save money for the customer.

In this case the customer is not us, its Land Rover, Ford, etc.

My research found that the change was made to reduce cost and not to make the product better.

For me personally I think that changing the fluid regularly is more important than the differences between 11S and 202.

And based on some of your posts i think that you would agree.

Thanks

Paul

I'm re-opening this old thread because I need to top up my power steering reservoir, which is just below the "min" when cold.

The handbook says to use Pentosin CHF 202 which is difficult to obtain here. A local parts supplier suggests to use Febi Bilstein 06161 fluid as an alternative.

Reading the specification online I was uncertain so I wrote to Febi who confirm that 06161 is NOT a suitable alternative but to use Febi 46161 instead which matches the CHF202 spec.

I mention it because no doubt the question will arise again, especially outside UK. driving on the right side

I once spoke to a guy, in the desert, who was running out of Steering Fluid. He added Johnson's Baby Oil. Sorted the problem out a treat.

(don't ask why he was carrying baby oil, I didn't want to ask)

The problem is that you asked a German and he gave you an exact answer. (no offense to the Germans)

If you are looking for the FEBI fluid that is the closest match to CHF 202 then buy FEBI 46161

If you are looking for the FEBI fluid that is the closest match to CHF 11S then buy FEBI 06161

Both fluids meet the Land Rover Spec LR 003401

Take a look

I wouldn't hesitate to use either one of these

Good luck

Paul
