Humming noise 🙄

I've developed a humming noise from my car recently. It starts at around 25mph and gets a little louder as the speed increases. I have messaged Austen at bell engineering as I thought it could be the transfer box, I've checked the driveshaft though and there's no play so I'm hoping it's not that.

I've taken the fuse out of the Haldex and noise is still there, I just end up with no terrain response or HDC so at not the haldex. I'm pretty sure it's coming from the front and i have plenty of tread on my tyres (TOYO AT) so I'm thinking it's not that.

I'm leaning towards it being a wheel bearing now. Well, I'm hoping anyway! When I weave left to right the sound changes as I take pressure off one side, also occasionally I get a high pitched squeak from wheels when I turn left.

Are there any ways to check for sure it's a wheel bearing ?

I'm booking the car in for a timing belt and water pump change next week so I kind of want it narrowed down so I can know what I'm taking about. The garage has been recommended on here so they should be ok.

Wish me luck gents (and ladies) I will keep you updated

The old way was to jack the car up and grab wheel top and bottom check for play then side to side and check.

Unfortunately, noisey bearings don't always show any signs of movement in my experience. Any change of direction that alters the tone of the noise is a fair indication that it is bearings though.

Several. As your car is with a mechanic soon I would let him diagnose it for you. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

An engineer once said to me that the problem with wheel bearings is that when the car is on the ground the bottom of the bearing surface is taking the load and gets worn whereas when off the ground the wheel is hanging on the top of the bearing so unless you are super strong you probably won't feel it by hand. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I think the engineer in question was talking about the bearing surface on the axle not the wheel. He was basically saying that you need the car upside down to test the wheel bearing by hand. 😀 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
