Hah, the joys of LR2 - drivers side front bearing noise.

Hi. 107k 2010 fl2
I think the wheel bearing is going on the front drivers side I've started to get a loud humming sound.

Don't have any equipment to do it myself, so would probably cost more to get all the bits etc... is it worth trying to do DIYor just take to a local LR expert (infield who are good are only 15 minutes away so would go to them) and any idea on what sort of price it would cost, and I don't know if this is a daft question, but should I get both the fronts done at the same time or just do the one that's noisy / poorly.

Yes could be something else entirely, but sounds like it's the bearing from years of having other cars and the same noisy usually being that. 2010 Freelander2 TD4_e GS

Pretty sure it is but will listen for that.

But the question is how much does it cost and is it the sort of thing you do one? or get both done at same time Smile 2010 Freelander2 TD4_e GS

Done plenty in my time but not on these. One side would usually be fine. Local Indie would /could be best option if they have done them before. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

We had a new hub/bearing fitted at a specialist a couple of years ago for £280 . Do bear in mind tyre noise as Yorky Bob says , they 're notorious for it .

Don't mess about changing bearings - change the knuckle.
the labour cost involved in stripping the bearing out of the knuckle far outweigh the price difference between the bearing and the knuckle.

Have seen a 10 ton press defeated trying to get a bearing out from a FL2 knuckle. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

I completely agree with Andy

I did a quick search and the part number i found is LR014147 (no bearing press required)

Take a look at this video

Note this is rear of a volvo XC70

It doesn't look too bad

For the disassembly at the front take a look at this video

The video is for strut replacement

These two videos should give you and idea of whats involved

Happy Motoring

Paul

I also had difficulty in diagnosing a similar noise but my local Indy lifted the front wheels off th ground and spun each wheel while touching the hub and you could immediately 'feel' the dodgy bearing. Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet?

I got lazy it's booked in for infield 4x4 to look at it on Friday, They will check and if I'm right and it is a front bearing they will do both for £425.

If one has gone, don't expect it will be a million miles before the other goes, so just getting them both done.

I've only had my FL2 5/6 months but love it and want it to be with me for a while Smile 2010 Freelander2 TD4_e GS
