Is the Freelander 2 really that wide?

What is it about the Freelander 2 that makes it appear so wide?

An example, waiting to get across a round about and the lane to my left is a dedicated feeder. Disco 4 comes hammering past, no problem albeit a little tight. The D4 is followed by a Velar which nearly puts the rear wheels over the front wheels they stopped so hard when they bottled it.

Another more recent example, driving down a residential street, the sort wide enough for two cars, if so many weren't parked on the kerb. An ambulance coming towards me passes without problem. The Corsa following nearly goes for an off road adventure after panicking about the size of the gap.

This isn't an irregular thing, nor confined to my local area!

I had an entertaining interaction with an on coming L322 over the weekend, single lane, flat grass either side, we both went 'off roading'.

It's the wing mirrors which are huge on the later models (well on my 64 plate SD4 they seem bigger than on my 09 plate GS). No doubt I am m8staken and it's the colour coding giving a false impression. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

I must admit, I was following an FL2 today whilst driving my works van, and the FL2 looked really wide, wider than I thought mine has ever looked, and it was identical!

1910 mm including door handles but not mirrors. 1860 mm door width, 1882 mm side moulding width (see link, at bottom of page) http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic24869.html

One of my favourite features of the Freelander is the very wide window sill. The value of this feature is almost priceless!

White Freelanders are wider, longer & taller than darker ones!

This is why Australians buy white cars!

Second reason is the southern hemisphere ozone hole, at an almost 26 million sq km record breaking size in 2015, is frying & radiating everyone to within an inch of their life (inchs sounds better than metric), this is why we all should wear broad brimmed hats to reduce cancer risk & why we buy white cars to reflect the radiation!

Southern hemisphere car owners also avoid car sunroofs like the plague! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

When approaching a narrow gap such when cars are parked on both sides of the road I often pretend that I don't know the width of my F2 by moving over to the right a bit. This usually has the effect of making the other driver move over to his left, the smaller the other car the better it works, then as both cars get close I move over and power fold the mirrors.

I have this problem with garaging my Freelander I have got into the habit of folding in my offside mirror before entering and leaving, how do you power your mirrors in whilst moving?

BB,To fold in your powerfold mirrors manually (so to speak) hold down both the left and right mirror buttons together and mirrors will fold in-out if vehicle is stopped or travelling below 12mph. Hope this helps! Thumbs Up
