That old Chestnut....... Keyfobs!

Hi all,

I recently purchased a 2012 Freelander 2 which I'm really happy with. Except it only came with one key fob (surprise surprise!)
Anyway- Is there a 'secret source' for replacements in Australia or do I have to cough up at a dealership?

I have taken the step of ordering a replacement fob with a blank key and transponder from my mate Ebay- I'll let you know how that goes- $135 delivered from a locksmith set up in QLD.

Any advise or hints would be appreciated Thumbs Up

Keen to find out! Both my fobs work but the rubber on the buttons is worn and rubbery, so it sticks to the top flap on the key receiver and wont eject.

Hey Tomtom-

My local LR dealer is happy to code it, I'll let you know how I go...if it arrives. There are a lot on ebay etc, but many from China. This supplier is in QLD.

I've replaced the outer casing twice in mine. They cost around $20 delivered from China. You crack open the old case, pull out the circuit board and snap it into the new case and it ends up like new.

Ok - So the new keyfob arrived yesterday. Looks pretty good, though the emergency key isnt a perfect fit, but not bad.

Will take it to LR service tomorrow for coding and cutting. Will let you know how I fair.

So finally- took the car and key into Brighton Land Rover and in about 30 mins they had the new key fob coded.
Great result. $135 for fob, $90 to code and $50 to cut the emergency key at a local key cutter stall.

$275 all up; not a bad result! Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Supplier via eBay was Amalgamated Locksmith, Newstead QLD.

That's so funny! By chance I actually bought two replacement key fob shells from Amalgamated at Newstead today.
