United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Firenze Red
More is Less

I have been working out what to do with our 2 cars. The 2013 Freelander is older and has many, many more miles than my wife's car that is just coming up to 3 years old. The pot is limited and we could change one of them and I think its going to be the .........

While looking around for new cars I have found that a car like my wife's now costs more in its new guise but real leather seating has been replaced by what is called "Man Made Leather". To get real leather it is another £1,000, hence more is less.

Being a Yorkshire-man I have found one built in September 16 and arrived in UK in early November 16 and its a case of less is more as the leather comes in the price and some other original touches that are better, it does not have man made leather.

So apart from any guesses what car goes and what stays any thoughts of a car sat since November ? FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Being a LR fan I would keep the Freelander but is it likely to cost more in the long run maintaining? 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Zermatt Silver

I can't see it matters a jot to be fair. It's only six months and it will come with a warranty. It will have been in an import compound, and will not get PDI'd until it's going out of the door. I once bought a 2008 new reg bike, it said 2007 model on the V5 and I knew that all of that very special specification had been built in the last quarter of 2006, the last ones were sold in 2009 never had any specific issues with the 17 months from build to road.

I'd run definitely the Freelander to (death like we are doing with my wife's) you'll be over the worst of the depreciation and in a few years will hit the point where it won't depreciate in real life . On second thoughts trade them both and get a Porsche Macan Bow down 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

2 cars ?

Do we need 2 cars is a reasonable question, we are a 2 person family. My wife heads off to work and is out of the house for 12 hours daily.

Brave man that would say catch a bus after helping her spend her money Laughing

We have 2 large allotments and I use the Freelander a great deal there.

Two very different cars and life streams so I would say at the moment yes we need two but on my wife's retirement a smaller 4WD may be sufficient. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Motoring Correspondent

I throw a few things at well known motoring correspondent a few times a year and always get a reply. Asked about the SLC yesterday.

Here is the reply this morning but I am Yorkshire man:

I wouldn't touch an SLC diesel, ever.

Wrong car in the first place. Flash exterior, yet when you start it up you tell everyone you're a penny-pinching skinflint.

And now in the minds of the public diesels are even worse.

The new model improvements are two new small petrol engines. They are what people will want in the future. And you can get them at significant discounts

My wife and I are both retired, we could easily run one car as we either go out together or only one of us goes out. We hardly ever use both cars at the same time. However there is more to it, she has always had her own car and can't bear the apparent loss of independence that would come with having to use "my" car. A lot of her friends are in the same situation and feel very strongly about it. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

The physiological answer maybe is to sell both cars together and buy THE FAMILY CAR. Very Happy FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Mercedes and their "artificial leather"! Laughing

I remember the salesman telling me that I'd never notice the difference, but it's pretty obvious. I wish they'd just call it the "Taxi spec" and be done with it!

If the choice is between new and "artificial", or used and genuine leather, there is no choice!
