United Kingdom 2012 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Galway Green
Hello all

I was around 8 years old and my Dad took me on a jaunt. We were joining a guided walk into the foothills of the Brecon Beacons, with a difference! We first had to jump into a 110 LWB LR, be transported to a remote location, then walk most of the day, to be picked up in said vehicles. All courtesy of the local authority ranger team.

Having lusted over Land Rovers since then, and my cars slowly becoming more LR like, last Thursday I got a stunning FL2 GS in Galway Green with a sunroof and tow bar. WOW!!!!
It drives beautifully, has superb comfort, running costs are no more than my former car (a rusty Fiat Sedici!), and it says Land Rover on the bonnet.

I love it ❤️🚗

My first experience was a surprise trip around the Gaydon LR off road course, as a passenger, in a Defender and a RRS in 2011. I've been with them ever since!

nice colour and sounds a good spec for a GS, with the bars and pan roof.

my first experience of LR was as an Army Cadet in the 80's being driven to annual camp down south in a LWB Series 3 soft top, with sankey trailer attached.

thought I was the mutts nuts driving down the motorway sat at the back of the open canopy with the fumes and noise .... Very Happy

My first Land Rover was a series 2 short wheel base which I took my caravan up to Scotland, took 3 days to get to Kinloss to the RAF base where my sister and brother in law were based. I wish had some ear defenders on due to the droning noise 50mph was its top speed and water proofs as the seals around the door were useless as every time a large vehicle went by in the rain I got drenched, the wife and kids loved it seeing me dripping. Freelander 2 TD4 GS 2011 Manual Satorini Black (Current)

I jus bought a 2010 FL2 HSE for Kenya

Hi everyone,

I have been a long-time lurker, and am former owner of a 2004 TD5 Discovery II, and am based in Kenya.

I bought a 2010 FL2 HSE in Galway Green (only 32k miles) which I am speccing up with the following before exporting into Kenya in the coming weeks:

    Front Lamp Guards
    Rear Lamp Guards
    Roof Rails (Panoramic)
    Cross Bar Kit
    Roof Mounted Luggage Carrier
    Front Protection Bar

I have already gotten great advise on changing the alloys from 19" to 17", and the types of types I should be getting.

I am looking forward to being part of this community - and hopefully sprucing up the activity on the African board particularly!

I too have a Galway Green Fl2, an SD4 HSE.

Dubba, are you selling your 19" wheels & tyres, with you changing to 17's? They're the very wheels I've been looking for!

I depends, but can be quite costly.

Taking the vehicle I have just purchased, I am providing a sample calculation below.

Before looking at the numbers, it is worth doing a few things:
The oldest vehicle you can import into the Kenya is 7 years old
The government takes a manufacturers recommended selling price (not the current purchase price), and then applies depreciation to the vehicle
With that in mind, here is the calculation for the vehicle that I just bought:

    Purchase price: £14,490
    Shipping to Kenya: £1,250

Tax Calculation

Current Customs Value (based on an SE, as they didn't sell the HSE locally in Kenya): £7,304
    Duty (25% of Customs Value):£1,826
    Excise-able Value (Customs Value + Duty): £9,130
Excise Tax (20%; clearly owning a "luxury" car is a sin): £1,826
VAT-able Value (Excise Value + Excise Tax): £10,956
    VAT (16%): £1,753
    Total Taxes: £5,405

There is also an additional £500-£750 of minor government fees, etc.... and this is no including "facilitation", which on principle I refuse to pay.

So, the total cost of this vehicle will be about £22,000.

In case anyone is interested, the calculation was done at: https://calculator.co.ke/kra-motor-vehicle-import-duty-calculator 2010 FL2 TD4 HSE Galway Green

How cool - and welcome to Freel2 as well - looks like we will be newbies together.

Based on the advice above, I am looking to sell the 19" wheels, but do not think I am eligible to post given that I am so new, and I do not want to fall foul of the powers that be as this is such an awesome site! 2010 FL2 TD4 HSE Galway Green
