Another Newbie!

Hi everyone, after lurking here for a short while i thought i'd best say hello! Very Happy

I recently purchased my first Land Rover and found the information on here very helpful in trying to decide if it was a good idea or not to go with the Freelander as my first car into the brand.

After much searching around and a few test drives my heart was set on getting one.

I ended up with a 2013 HSE LUX, it was quite high mileage for the age (59k), but that doesn't really bother me as i do 20-30k a year anyway.

After less than 3 months of ownership i've covered around 6k miles and I am very pleased with the car!
Its very comfortable and cruises on long journeys, i love the higher ride height and its surprisingly easy to drive.

Fuel economy is not as bad as i thought it would be, with an average mpg of 39.26 over 6292 miles and my best tank to tank was 43.83 on a 454 mile trip!

2 minor niggles i have at the moment is an intermittent rattle in the sun roof when its opened, and the drivers seat squeaks a bit when going over bumps, i am sure they can be easily sorted.

1 unknown issue, i have about 5 times, had a momentary loss of power, normally when I am starting from a standstill, although did get it once when going from 30 to 60. Not too worried about it as of yet, so ill keep an eye on it and see if it gets any worse.

I've just done one small change to the car which was adding tints to the rear.

I love the car, it seems to ooze character and charm, i am not sure why but it does! Thumbs Up

Might be the throttle bodies starting to go. If the gear drive on the end gets chewed up it doesn't give the response to the pedal that it should. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

That's a couple of good points there thanks guys!
It's due a service soon, I believe the fuel filter should get changed as part of that, if it still persists then I guess changing the throttle body is doable, had a look online and doesn't seem an expensive part.

Whoever does the service should be able to test the throttle bodies and tell if they're working as they should. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

Agree re the fuel filter. Also, to avoid confusion, there is only ONE Throttle body, not "bodies". However, faults with that are generally manifested by shudder on shutdown and/or noises from under bonnet after shutdown. NB. Although termed "throttle" it has no function in engine revs. Think of it more like an old fashioned "choke" which cuts the air flow.

My money is on the fuel filter, had it a couple of times on different cars. OK when cruising but when you go up a hill or suddenly accelerate you get fuel starvation and up comes the message. Often clears itself then returns. A LR Assist guy told me that it was more common on filters fitted to earlier models especially in cold weather when you could get some diesel waxing compounding the problem. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I'll have to mention it when I get it serviced, I 'think' so far I have only had the issue occur when the outside temp is around 15c or higher, not sure if that means anything or just coincidence.
I had the gear selector in manual mode once when it did it and when I pulled away at a junction the revs froze at around 1400, if it's in auto then the gearbox judders the car (think it can't decide on 1st or 2nd gear) and almost appears to 'catch up' with my throttle input once it clears itself, almost like it's clearing its throat Smile

I haven't got any receipts from the previous owners only service stamps so can't see what exactly was and wasn't done previously so will probably get the 'b' service done just to make sure it's all done etc.
