hi MRRover75
I looked at the pictures on ebay and whilst the diff looks the same as the FL2 the propshaft flange is different looks like it now has a cush drive types flange and is longer.
If its is a cush drive/ damper then that sounds like a good idea as it will cushion the blow on the bearing when the haldex kicks in.

That isntb cushdrive, it's just a silly damper ring that was fitted around the outside of the flange. No idea why it was fitted as car drives no different without it, and all it does is make removing prop and haldex a pain in the ass. The input flange is actually on the haldex not the diff. The diff and the haldex are identical. www.bellengineering.co.uk

United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

Hi Austen,
I'm hopefully getting my diff sorted this coming weekend. This will be done by my mechanic who is an Audi Technician. I have 2010 FL2 with auto box. I have purchased bigger bearing kit from Bell Engineering including all seals. My mechanic has ordered Landrover Haldex service kit.

My understanding is that the 2010 Freelanders has a slightly bigger diff to accommodate bigger bearing. If so, is your guide on page 7 I think it was, all my mechanic needs to know, or are there any pointers or tips that ive missed

thanks. [/b] First and only FL2 from new. Stornaway Grey 77k

Did you buy a diff from me? I didn't sell anyone a bearing and seal kit.

Externally diffs are identical, haldex fitting is the same, changing the diff is the same. Hope that helps www.bellengineering.co.uk

My mistake.

Got the kit from Bristol Transmissions

It has Pinion Tail bearing, Pinion seal, 2 driveshaft seals. collapsible spacer. Haldex O ring, diff case seal and lock nut. First and only FL2 from new. Stornaway Grey 77k

It's not the larger bearing then. If it is it won't fit your diff www.bellengineering.co.uk

Okay.

Firstly my primary question..... On Landyzone or another FL2 forum that you frequent, it says that 2010 onwards FL2 Diffs were different in that they took a larger bearing. I do not know if this is true or not. Can you help as I have the items below ;

In my kit the bearings are, as follows

2x Timken x23008x bearings
1x Timken x32206M bearing

and one A&S Fersa HM 88649/10 bearing. measurements on box of 34,93 x 72,23 x 25,4

The question is, will these fit please?

Thanks. First and only FL2 from new. Stornaway Grey 77k

Give me a call, it will be far easier to talk through it with you. I have only seen diffs with 2013/14 manufacture dates that take the larger bearing kit as standard. All diffs with 06-12 dates use the smaller bearing. There is a so called "harder" bearing, but this is the same size and I'm yet to believe the bearing is any harder than a top quality Timken bearing www.bellengineering.co.uk

Pretty certain I've got the whining rear diff but can anyone advise if there's any way to tell for sure?

It has only got slightly worse over 5000 miles since it appeared. We can't feel any wheel bearing play at all, and no change in sound when you load up either side while driving. But what's bothering me is nor can we detect any noise from anywhere when it's driven on a ramp using the long screwdriver approach. The trouble is it's not loaded up when it's in the air so it's all quiet. Also once you build up any revs the ABS starts to kick in and drag the wheels! Exclamation

Was debating a set of ChassisEars... anyone tried them?

I know the obvious answer is take it to Bell Engineering, which is no doubt what will ultimately happen (Hi Austen!), but I'll feel like a bit of a turkey if I drive 200 miles and it turns out to be a wheel bearing! Whistle Big Cry

Good shout but yes, I was able to swap all 4 out at the weekend for a test. The sound I would compare to the hum you get on a fast train from the tracks. Sounds pretty much like a wheel bearing to me, hence my caution to jump in prematurely on the diff!

Thanks Smile

1 rear diff + 3 Haldex units

3 haldex in 1000 miles for my 2012 HSE Auto

- 30 000 miles : whining -> rear diff changed
- 40 000 miles : vibrations on rear wheels when turning and accelerating --> Haldex unit changed and problem solved
- 40 200 miles : Vibrations again -> Oh sorry the Haldex unit changed 200 miles ago was brand new and faulty we will change it again --> then changed and problem solved
- 41 000 miles : Vibrations again .... Oh sorry again, the two previous Haldex changed were faulty even if brand new ..it happens you know we have to change it again --> changed and problem solved so Far ...

Now 43 000 miles and the last Haldex fitted seems ok so far ...

Well ... I spoke too soon ... 1500 miles later ... juddering again .... and car out of warranty Thumbs Up
I'm fed up with this situation ... and don't know what to think. What could wreck the haldex after a short mileage ? Banging Head

Were these replacements undertaken by the main LR dealer?

It's hard to believe that you could get through 3 Haldex units because they were all somehow faulty. This sounds more like a fitting problem to me. Could it even be a software issue causing failure. Have the garage ever done one of these satisfactorily for anyone else? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
