My 2008 FL2 is fitted with automatic folding mirrors when locking /unlocking. Is there any way of stopping it from being automatic? I would rather fold them in manually when needed.

I believe you close them in off the buttons (press L & R mirror buttons together) then go out and manually pull them out. That then leaves them permanently open until you reverse the process.

On pre MY13, trip to dealer or appropriate diagnostic tool able to disable "Auto fold" function. You can then manually open/close. MY15

Struggling to understand why you would want to leave the wing mirrors out - perhaps a good time to remind folk that silicone oil sprayed around the pivot point certainly aids the operation of the mirrors.  MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Agreed - why would you want them not to fold automatically? Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet?

Pivot point, I am guessing this is an obvious bit to spray?

just spray some silicon lube into the gap underneath the mirror housing and the arm

open/close them a few times to work the lube into the moving parts inside. The mirror juddering or creaking when moving in and out is a common one due to road dirt etc being forced into the when driving. A squirt of suitable lube into the pivot point normally fixes it
