Transmission Fault - Reduced Traction - Freelander 2 i6

I will be grateful for some advice. Just had the warning "transmission fault, reduced traction" come on. I've stopped and restarted the car, where the warning didnt appear straight away. As its an automatic gearbox, I took the car for a short spin up the motorway and there was no difference in the drive or performance. I have been reading the posts regarding the Haldex and it sounds like it could be expensive (its a 57 plate). I have had bad experiences with my Landrover dealer, where they have tried to rip me off several times, so was wondering whether this is something that a small independant garage could look at or does it need the kit/experience at Landrover?

Might seem a long drive from Glasgow, but Austin does a good job (often better than LR) for a fair price, you will save far more than the price of the fuel, and know the jobs been done properly. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Yep Austen is the man and I made the pilgrimage just to get the Haldex serviced (with no faults) as a Yorkshire man Rolling with laughter

I am sure he could offer some advice if you send him an email giving him full details of your issue Thumbs Up FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Yes highly recommend Austin at Bell Engineering, I believe today he saved me a ton of money sorting my "reduced traction" problem because he specialises in this particular fault. My diff and haldex problem was due to some dodgy work done on the diff previously and he found the problem within 10 mins and I was driving away after a couple of hours, very happy.

Probably a good idea to get a diagnostic on thecar before you do anything... Only dead fish go with the flow

Care to elaborate? What was the issue, symptoms etc? And what was not done properly during the diff work to cause it? Thanks

Happened to me as well, the "transmission fault - traction reduced" message related to the Haldex unit in my case (not the diff itself) and would appear on and off. The fix was a pump within the Haldex unit, if I remember correctly.

Yay I have also today fallen foul of this warning on the dash, it actually feels like I'm only driving on front wheels, under HARD acceleration on a wet road it torque steers really bad and then traction control kicks in, but doesn't feel like the back end is doing anything. GREAT... had the car about 3 months and only done 2000 miles. She's only done 49,000 miles, this better not be the shape of things to come. Will keep ya'll posted. FREELANDER 1 55 plate XS TD4 Had for 7yrs now sold 😢

Happened to mine at about 40k miles too. A new Haldex pump was fitted and it never happened again.
The garage recognised it immediately as a known fault. FL2 HSE Lux 2011 SD4 Gallway Green.

Managed to find a garage in Paisley who specialise in Jaguar/Landrover. They ran a diagnostic and recognised the fault as the Haldex pump. Fitted a new pump and got the car back the same day - they also confirmed that it's quite a common problem. Seems like I have been quite lucky that it's happened at 98K miles! Can't thank you all enough for the advice and especially Austen, who spoke to me and told me exactly what was needed. 😀😀

The best part was I bought the FL from Strathmore Volvo in Perth, came with 12 months warranty and because they don't do LR stuff they sent it over the road to Pentland LR, I'm so glad I wasn't picking up the bill for it ha ha ha FREELANDER 1 55 plate XS TD4 Had for 7yrs now sold 😢
