Tow electrics

Hi all

Firstly happy new year!

So I had fitted my detachable witter towbar and genuine landrover electrics. I have put in the 40 amp and both 15 amp fuses in the boot fuse box.

I know I have to take it somewhere to get the trailer stuff turned on but my question is should anything work prior to the software switch on? I plugged a light board in but get nothing at all. Is this normal or would you expect for some lights to work?

Thanks

Hi Dave, If I recall correctly nothing worked on my trailer until I updated the CCF.

(B.T.W take your trailer board with you and test after you have had the coding done)

Hi

Thanks for the quick reply.

How much does it roughly cost to have the trailer part activated?

Thanks

It does vary from car to car what has been switched on/off in the CCF, but make some enquiries at a decent 'Towing Centre' as they would probably have an 'Autologic' to do this much cheaper than a Dealer.

I did a search on here and it seems approx. £75 ish is the going rate to enable the module.
It is a very popular topic and quite a few posts on the subject.

Good Luck

My independent did it for a fiver with his Autologic.

Takes seconds.

Took him longer to find somewhere to put down his mug of tea than to actually do it...

Just an update on towing electric's activation as I've had my OEM LR towing module turned on today. Apparently the later Autologic diagnostic units can't turn on the module anymore you need to find someone with the older version.

For info for anyone looking into this a 2010 XS needed a download from Autologic to the ECU before the diagnostic unit could turn it on. Prior to this there was no functioning of the trailer lights/indicators at all like there has been on some models.

Possibly because of rear parking sensors that need isolating? I don't know but once the map was down loaded and the unit switched on everything worked including the dash warning lamp. Thumbs Up

It does beg the question, why aren't ALL vehicles enabled for towing electrics, then its up to the dealer/fitter/owner to install the electrics S&N or 13pin sockets.

From 2013 they are. Unlike a lot of other manufactures which still aren't pre-programed.
