2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Santorini Black

Had the same problem with my MY2011. Dealer in Glasgow repaired under warranty in 2013-2014. Took three attemps but has now been fine for a year.
Dealer advised that they had a lot of these problems. Unfortunately it still took them three attemps. The first couple of times the paint just rubbed off after a week or so. What was worse is that the primer had been removed when they repainted which lead to immediate rust forming in this area.

Hi Ryan

I have now, eventually, as you advised, managed to take my FL2 to my local dealer (Colliers, B'ham) who told me that because the vehicle is over 3 years old the tailgate paint fault will not be covered by Land Rover warranty. Similarly the corrosion on the wheel arch is not covered.

I'm most disappointed with this, as the tailgate issue is clearly a design fault, the body shop man admitted they had had to fix the tailgate on a brand new vehicle before now, and speculated that the wheel arch corrosion appears to have happened due to is a failure of the galvanising.........

Colliers advised to try returning the vehicle to the original supplier to see if they will do it as a goodwill gesture, but surely this is a Land Rover rather than a Dealership responsibility? I'm reluctant to do another 60 mile round trip to be told the same thing!

Please advise on next step?

Picked up my car from Kinghorn Bodyshop near Aberdeen today who are the local Land Rover approved bodyshop following the repair to the tailgate and have to say that the work completed and the service received has been excellent, even giving the car a full valet.

They loaned me a merc c220 cdi whilst they had mine and although felt very different to driving the freelander was a very nice car to drive.

They are trained to say "we arent aware of any faults", as soon as they say "oh not another one" folk know they might be in with a chance and they will get a "swarm" coming in.

RRRRRs - just looked at my tailgate and hey ho here we go! Paint's rubbing on offside end - not sure if I want the hassle of taking it stealer and getting it sorted. Guess I will as there are precendents on here - once it comes back I'm sticking some "copter" tape under the ends of the handle to stop it happening again. If dealer won't sort it then touch up stick and tape it myself!

Doesn't help that the top coat of paint looks as if its a layer about 2 atoms thick at best. On plus side i don't think it's through the primer yet.

Great site by the way - now I know what the problems might be and can tick them off one by one. Wink ...still a great car though!

I had the paint rubbing off my 2011 FL2 XS manual under the boot handle at the edges too. At first the local dealer ( Not whom i bought the FL2 from ) refused stating that it was a cosmetic paint issue which is only covered by 3yr warranty. I contacted LR CRC and they got the local dealer to fix it under the corrosion warranty (6yrs ). Took a couple of months to sort and seeing the bodyshop manager eat humble pie was a pleasant experience! My advice is dont take the first assessment as the end of the story and use Landrover customer care. In the end im a happy LR customer........... Thumbs Up

Tailgate handle causing paint issues

Hi, I am having the same tailgate paint issue on my 2012 freelander 2 xs. It is down to the metal on both sides. I am aware that I am outside the 3 year paint warranty but I have heard of some being fixed under the corrosion warranty or as a gesture of goodwill. How do I go about getting this resolved?

Just an update on this - I mentioned the paint issue when the FL went in for it's service at the dealers - "we've never seen that issue before" - but to be fair they got the guy from the paintshop in to have a look and measure paint thickness (to make sure it hadn't been resprayed..). Once all agreed it was a problem car went in for respray on tailgate all under warranty. Jobs a good'un - well part from the overspray on the rear light clusters that I've now got to go back and have removed... FL No 1 - 2012 (MY2011) XS manual Firenze Red - Gone

I 've had my tailgate resprayed twice. 2nd time I've put 0,5 cm thick rubber piece on both sides under the plastic handle . Solved
