Lovely place. We.ve been there 3 times. Me and three of my friends always do a European motorcycle trip each year and meet up with the wives halfway through for 2 or 3 days. We always stay in the same hotel on Lake Garda - Hotel Eden in Sirmione. I'd recommend that location and hotel to anyone. We're all off on Friday 8th July to this years destination - Lake Maggiore for a change!

I went up those cable cars, great view, we stayed in a hotel between Desenzano and Sirmione, hired bikes pedalled to Sirmione , along a road next to the metal fences that keep the inmates in the caravan sites there.

Then on for a couple of nights in Verona.

Flew into to Bergamo and had a couple nights there too, fantastic old town at the top of a fenicular. At work

We went to Bardolino when we were in Sirmione. Nice little town. We rode round the lake on the bikes and the women went across on the boat. Sirmione is very nice - you have to drive through a castle gates to get to it and no cars are allowed apart from dropping off/picking up. All the tourists come there in the day but it quietens down in the evening. Our hotel was right on the lake and practically next to the ferry jetty. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Only problem with Garda is those ferrys take a long time to get across lake. fun the first trip but it gets a bit dull subsequently. At work

not the lakes but still Italy

We stayed her unexpectedly while on honeymoon, long story involving Mrs G hiding our passports under the minibar of the previous hotel and a 150 mile return trip to collect them Rolling Eyes

Anyway we couldnt be bothered to drive 150 miles again that evening, so just chose a nearby place from a guide book. not very fancy but hey ho, Until we went for dinner in the cellars underneath, wow best food ever. amen
