England 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Narvik Black
Power Transfer Unit

I have this strange noise coming from the near side of the engine bay.
Initially I thought it tyre noise but now think it could be bearing failure in the PTU.
Has anyone had experience of a failure of this unit? Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet?

The noise got slowly louder and it was diagnosed by a local LR indy as being a wheel bearing - phew!
He had a 200yd drive and to confirm his suspicions he put the car up on a ramp and spun the front n/s wheel and I could hear how rough it sounded, then spun it and held the suspension coil and you could feel the play and vibration - no noise or play in the o/s.
So it should be a lot cheaper repair than a PTU or diff! Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet?

112,000 on the clock
Original clutch
New Air Con Compressor at 67,000
New front disks/pads at 75,000
Repaced original battery at 106,000

I bought it with 23,000 miles and to replace with similar is going to cost me at least £12,000 so I plan to get Cam Belt etc, Clutch, drive fluids, brake hoses/fluid replaced and run it forever! Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet?
