You could hook up a gang mower on the back and have that done in a jiffy? Thumbs Up

My lawn really does look as long as that - almost covers the Disco wheels (the freelander gets parked on the concrete driveway)

Or perhaps I could have the tailgate open with Mam sat in the boot and a pair of garden shears in hand -then I do the difficult bit of driving round while she simply trims the grass - simple. Idea

Take a look in the Off Topic "Humour" section for an explanation of lawn mowing.

Can I slightly divert this thread to more technical lawn mowing issues whish I have been pondering awhile??

I currently have a bit of rough land (about 1/4 acre) which comprises grass and weeds. It is on a bit of a slope and the ground is fairly rough/uneven.

Currently I strim it about once a month, which is OK but hard work and takes about 2 1/2 hours. What I would really like to do is mow most of it and then tidy up with the strimmer

The question is what sort of a mower?? I am looking at second hand as I don't wish to spend too much. It needs to be robust to cope with the ground. I don't need a bowling green finish and I don't need to collect the grass. A proper "rough cut" mower seems a bit over the top and I am concerned that the normal wheeled rotary type will not cope too well with the rough ground.

So I am thinking along the lines of a heavy duty Flymo type hover mower. I have no experience of these, but am slightly anxious about the lack of height adjustment available which is maximum 30mm. If this is an accurate "real world" figure it seems a bit short. I think that probably 40 -45 mm would be nearer what I need

Any thoughts and opinions would be welcome, either serious or not so serious!!

Many thanks Steve

ok, Ill kick things off............

Get a couple of sheep, then you can keep the grass down, no matter what the weather, and in the winter your other half can knit you a wooly hat and scarf to keep warm

You can get a brush cutting grass mower, it has 2 large rear wheels and a large strimmer/cutter disc on the front for cutting over very overgrown rough ground, gorse etc? Lot easier than the normal strimmer you hold and swing which can become quite tiring after a while.

Ha well funnily enough there are sheep in the next door field but I have been forbidden from speaking with the farmer because there are certain things growing which are definitely NOT to be eaten!!

I was aware of the wheeled strimmer type of machine......perhaps that is the best route to go down

thanks for the suggestions

Steve
