Dead easy to fix and the sooner the better Thumbs Up

Bang on there fella, thank you.

I spoke to Alan Smith garage in Derby, they were fantastic. He said something similar and was very knowledgeable and helpful.

I had chance to have a look last night carry out a few checks as suggested. What shocked me was the colour of the oil! It's was black! I managed to drain some fluid out and back flushed the filter in the resevior. Refitted it all and some new fluid and it's so much quieter.

I guess the reservoir is a single piece item, so I'll try to replace it this weekend and look to drain and replace all the fluid.

Thanks for all your helpful comments guys. Happy it's not the gearbox...but reading some of your signatures there have been a few nightmare cars...

There have been quite a few threads on here about servicing the power steering pump and filter. If you use the search facility you should find all you need to know. Note also that the correct fluid is green, not red. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Thanks Fella.

Given the colour of the oil I'm going to service PAS every 20k going forwards.

It was poor though to read about the weld spatter being the case of some failures....

The weld problem was only on early models. Yours should not be affected. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
