I have 2 SD4 autos
My wife does country roads and town driving = 34.5 ish mpg
I mainly do A roads and motorways = 37.5 mpg, mind you I am going up and down long hills on M25 and over the A21 so quite pleased.

When loaded on holiday cruising through France at 130kmph, about 85 ish, then I still get around 36-37.

No complaints from me

I have a 2007 TD4, does between 35 - 39 mpg around these hilly parts. With regards to quietness I had the pleasure of looking at the new DS, this was no quieter than my car and I was quite surprised by how noisy it was.

I have an 09 td4 and 11 sd4, both autos. The SD4 returns 10% better fuel economy and I really appreciate the extra power when overtaking.

Newer SD4 would be out of my price range unless they had rocket ship miles, which comes down to 2010 > TD4 and it would have to be an auto for me this time

so a 2010 > TD4 Auto high spec model is top of the list at the moment.................. anyone selling one like this cheap ?

no roof bars, around 75 max and I normally use BT Ultimate or Shell equivalent.
Mine are 63 & 14 plates

I also drive quite 'progressively' at times !!

Mpg doesn't really concern me but since we're talking about it my trusty manual is very good!

Mines a 14 plate and I also use diesel super (either Shell or BP). I have roof bars but never get anywhere near your figures.

I am not convinced that people are genuinely getting late 30's into the 40's on the SD4 on an average.

It is very easy to make it look like your getting more. I did a slow 55mph run down the M1 on Friday and re-set the trip and it settled to around 51mog, but as soon as I was off and doing usual driving 30-32 was the average. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. the higher figures are, as you say MAV, probably achieved by resetting the trip as soon as they are onto a smooth run i.e. motorway steady speeds. This will only give an average MPG for the motorway trip and not the A/B road stop/start driving.

I would expect that manuals (TD4 or SD4) will achieve around 34-35mpg average with autos achieving a little less at 32mpg (ish)

which for a permanent 4x4 aerodynamic brick is pretty reasonable IMO

when I set this poll and discussion going I wasn't so much interested in the MPG figures people get (there are countless threads on this) but more interested in the reliability, performance, smoothness, quietness etc that the different powerplants offered.

totally agree,early - mid 30's is pretty much the best as an average you can expect without any town driving, then it will drop to late 20's 

We tend to get pretty much bang on 30mpg as an average with all sorts of driving, but the car doesn't tend to go on motorways these days unless we are going on holiday.

Personally, I a not bothered about MPG as the car looks to only be doing about 8000 miles a year now. I wouldn't have a Land Rover if I was. 30mpg average for a 2 Ton + 4x4 isn't that bad. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather.
