2014 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Loire Blue

As doctor has mentioned just get the cross climate, the article mentions they are better than the Goodyear vector which is quite an achievement, I have been using the gy vectors on my front wheel drive Citroen for years now and I would say that they are no different at all to the Mitchelin summer tyre that were on when I got the car other than they work all year round whatever the conditions. I have used them on lots of ice and a little snow and they do not break traction unless you go far to fast.

I wouldn't let rear wheel drive put you off now that we have true all year round tyres avaliable to us.

England 2013 Freelander 2 TD4_e GS Auto Sumatra Black

Thanks for all the advice everyone Thumbs Up the wife has bought a Mercedes CLC today so I will see about winter tyres. I had a quick look online today for tyres but was struggling due to the front and rear tyres being different sizes. When I get some time I will have a proper look. Thanks again everyone. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

If pushed, then snow socks are a good stopgap, but you can't use them on clear Tarmac if you want them to live...

I used to drive a Volvo estate which gripped really well on skinny tyres with a few bags of sand in the back for ballast, but much prefer the freelander now I'm older and wiser! 2000 Xei 1.8 gone
2004 HSE Td4 Auto, MT's, sump guard, sliderz - gone
2014 GS Man - AT's, Mantec Sump guard and tank guard, split charger in boot, towbar, work in progress...

People all over continental Europe drive Mercs etc and they have serious snow! But they have to use winter tyres by law during half the year. I must say I have always been impressed by the way they drive quite happily in snow over there - the tyres make all the difference. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

This is a classic case of RTFM. On most rear-wheel drive cars, simply hold in the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) button until it is completely off - the car then behaves like a normal rear-wheel drive car and it will often get you going reasonably well in 2nd gear, albeit steering with the handbrake! Always turn DSC back on as soon as possible.

I have never met anyone who knows this trick - then again, I've never met anyone who always reads the Censored manual. Rolling Eyes

All I know is we had 12" deep snow here a couple of years ago and all the BMW rear wheel drives couldnt move at all but the Freelander just walked through it, I was the only one to get out, even the BMW 4x4 were hopeless as they had motorway tyres on them, its ground clearance and the appropriate tyres that means you dont get stuck in such conditions.

I always wonder what these kids do with their slammed cars in winter snow? I expect they stay in bed all day and call in sick Rolling Eyes .
