my name is Andreas and I am from Germany (southwest).
I love my FL2 but during the last weeks I am a little bit desparated...

First it started with strange noises when I was using the 1st gear around 2.000 U/min in city traffic:


I read that somehow the air conditioner loses some fluid over the time. So I let check the air conditioner and fill it up and some o-rings at the compressor were changed too.

For a few days everything was fine, than it started again. This time it was white smoke that came out of the ventilation nozzles (and it stinks!). After a few minutes I can turn on the air condition again and it cools down, but then it starts again to smoke.

My independent garage now thinks, that it might be the evaporator. They found information, that at FL2 the evaporator leaks often and LR simply puts some selant in it - and thats it. That was yesterday.

Now, I made a long tour (700km) and am still confronted with the problem - after 500 happy kilometers, suddenly the white smoke came again out of the ventilation nozzles. With two kids on the way to italy... great...

I managed to get it to work again - with the fan on the lowest level it lasted another 30 minutes.

Dows anyone have an idea, what it is and what to do?
I decided to do some research of myself so I can help my garage...

To change the evaporator, is it necessary to dismount the whole dashboard?

Check the vent pipe, probably blocked.

You will need to get under the vehicle and give it a squeeze.

Often the pipe can become detached and leak water into the cabin soaking the carpets.

Highly unlikely your evaporator has a leak! If you did you'd know about it and
so would the car next to you! A/c systems run under extremely high gas pressure.
Misting from the vents from turning on the a/c at first is quite normal under certain atmospheric conditions namely high humidity.
Besides if your gas had escaped the system would not work!
The smell is probably a build up of bacteria in your evaporator coil and box. Go to a good air conditioning specialist and ask them to de sanitise your system. MY15

The mist doesn't came by turning on A/C. I turn the car on (with AC on) and everything works fine - no mist or sth. But then after a time, there is a massive mist coming out of every ventilation nozzles. The mist does not simply smell bad like old water or sth. It smells like a chemical / gas. The mist ist thick and white.

My theory is: The evaporator is leaking, but not too much. Only if the pressure is too much, then a little bit of gas escapes and is causing the white mist. If a use the A/C on low level it tooks longer before the mist comes, on high level it's faster there...

What do you think?

It will be less on low, your not working it so hard, check. the vent pipe, I doubt you are getting a pool of water below the vehicle when the Air Con is working. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

As others have said in the above posts, it'll be the drain pipe blocked up....had these exact symptoms on my last FL2. A search on the site should find you posts on how to find and unblock. 2011 SD4 HSE Auto

I will check it - all of your hints! My plan is to support my garage with some input from you.

Tomorrow I will use the AC again without moving the car. Then there should be water under it. And if not so, the blocked out pipe is the solution, right?

It is quite a lot of water, I have been told before that my car is leaking, quite noticeable even after a short while.

Same as taz last year someone knocked the door to say it was leaking ( the reply was shes doing a pee all normal budy )

Gota say have not noticed it as much at all this year though

- NO water under the car after using the A/C!
- both floors are a little bit WET (to the center tunnel)!

Now crossing fingers that after checking the pipe at my garage all will be fine again.

Will be next week, I think. Of course I am telling you the result...

meanwhile my FL2 was at my garage. And - the out pipe was somehow broken, so the water couldn't flow away properly. No problems anymore! It is now fixed, but I will get a new one installed soon (the costs for this part is low...).
