My Evoque is the same, a noticeable jerk between 1st and 2nd gear. Was hoping the 13MY Fl2 would be an improvement, that doesn't seem to be the case Sad 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Like everyone else I have experienced the same sometimes when changing into 2nd.
As most others have noticed it's not with every change. In a way I'm encouraged by the comments that it's been happening in older models & doesn't seem to be a sympton of a major problem & if so I can live with an occasional gearbox clunk. Mine is 2013 TD4 XS with just over 1000 miles so far & very pleased with it.

Losteastview,
Have you tried oiling the gearbox cable linkage? Located underneath battery area. Get someone to move the gear stick, you look within that area you will notice the linkage. I had a squeaky gear stick operation, especially with first and second gear. Sprayed a bit of wd40 on the linkage, all smooth now. Landy has now gone.

Hi Boroboy,

the dealer said they have done this, but its made no difference. I'll just have to monitor it and see if it gets any better, hopefully it will ? MY13 TD4 Black and White manual - Gone

losteastview,
I'd check myeslf anyway. Stating the obvious, check when engine is not running. I sprayed my linkage, big improvement straight away. Easy job. Landy has now gone.

Hi All,.

From my original post with stiff / notchy 1st and 2nd gear, reverse is now difficult to engage. It takes a couple of attempts dipping the clutch to engage reverse. All other gears still silky smooth.

Does anyone thing I've got a problem developing, if so I assume it could be a clutch issue ?

I would appreciate your thoughts

Thanks

Neil.

The gear changes on my 13MY are silky smooth a big difference from my Evoque which terrible at times between first and second. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Has anyone driven two freelanders of MY2013 to see if this is worse/different/better. Mine is really started to annoy me, it's not as if there any specific knack to a smooth change.

Even after 6 months muscle memory has not come into play to allow!!

I too have had the reverse problem on two occasions, but before seeing the post above just assumed it was me!! 2013 FL2 - Black Edition Auto

Losteastview did you ever get to the bottom of your gear change problem as my 2007 is experiencing the same symptoms ie notchy 1-2 nd gear and sometimes difficult getting in reverse its as if the clutch isn't disengaging enough.
I had a complete clutch replacement 2 yrs ago as flywheel broke. The only part I didn't replace was the clutch master cylinder whether this it the cause of the trouble. I have routinely sprayed my gear linkage inside and out using proper cable linkage spray it loosens the change but doesn't stop the odd crunch and notch ness. I keep blaming the Mrs for the problems Censored

The clutch uses the same fluid as the brakes, might be worth checking the fluid and changing if it hasn't been done.

Well after 2 years of ownership from new / 20,000 miles and now on its third clutch enough was enough. After, how shall I put it, discussions took place with the dealer principle he eventually agreed to buy back my freelander at full Land Rover retail forecourt price on the understanding that I would buy another one.

A deal was done in February of this year and touch wood this one has not missed a beat.

Sorry but I presume that doesn't help much

Neil.
