Dashcam cabling

Sort of electrical...

Have fitted a dashcam and am going to hardwire into fuse F5 with a piggy back fuse and a cig socket in the glovebox.

However I'm not sure how best to do the cable run from the top of the windscreen. Have those who have fitted similar managed to just tuck the cable in between the windscreen and the headlining or have you had to remove anytjing (which I would love to avoid)?

Secondly, where did you feed the cable to get it into the glove box?

Cheers Learned to drive in 2011.

Remove the A Pillar cover, pop the panel that says Airbag, underneath is a Phillips Screw, remove this the panel comes off, run the cable up the pillar, making sure you do not cross the Airbag at any point, this part is vital, then pull off the rubber door seal and you will find a way to the fuse box. You can tuck the cable easily behind the Headlining without removing it. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

Thanks ad. Apologies for the stupid question, but which one is the A pillar?

I assume other than the airbag itself, there is nothing else to avoid when in there? I don't know my car arse from elbow. Learned to drive in 2011.

Should have said, I would be running the cable from the fuse box to the glove box. Then run the cam power cable from the windscreen to the glovebox. Would the required access be granted with your method? Learned to drive in 2011.

A pillar is the one between the door and the windscreen, B Billar is the one between the front door and the rear passenger door, C Pillar Rear Passenger door and so on.
Remove the Glove Box, fuses will easily be seen, remove the Rubber Door Seal, you will easily find a route up to the A Pillar, easy peasy. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

Kind of obvious when you explain it Very Happy thank you. That's one more thing cleared up in almost every thread I read Thumbs Up

Sounds fairly straight forward. Thank you. Learned to drive in 2011.

From the pic it looks like you would wire that directly into a piggybck fuse and the other wire with the clip on the end is the earth. No need for cig socket. Learned to drive in 2011.

Quick update ad...

Removed the A pillar cover, as you suggested. Only thing to note is it has a T30 screw, not a Phillips.

Sadly I then discovered I had bought the wrong size piggy back fuse.

New one on the way Smile Learned to drive in 2011.

Got the new and correct piggy back fuse and fitted a couple of nights ago. Didn't work. Turns out one of the fuses that came with it was blown. Thankfully bought 2 so now all working Smile

Sadly was done on a dull rainy night parked on the street so no photos.

Will try and take some when I get a chance and update this. Learned to drive in 2011.
