Stu, so you have this working now, right? I've have an SE with the 11 speaker Meridian system, is it likely I can enable this too?

Yes, it's possible.
I still Havn't finished looking into this but sofar you have to change the wiring loom which connects from the ICE amplifier in the rear to the main dash loom under the transmission selector. Also the GPS dome on the roof as there is two different part nos Digital/analogue. There's other modules involved which are located in the rear tailgate and the FM loop amplifier which I still need to verify as they are all interconnected.
The DAB module is the easy bit! Mind you there is about a half dozen part nos as they are region specific - so not a simple answer atm.
Oh and BTW Philip, the new wiring Loom is just under 2k, Dome is cheap, couple hundred and that's before the DAB module, no wonder JLRA never specified in AU and we get other goodies! MY15

All I want to know is where I can buy the cable that attaches to the stud connector on the rear window....any ideas folks?

Ok! Sometimes you just have to walk away as some projects appear to get too complicated and I find walking away can give new perspective which is exactly what's happened here and I got attracted to the "Dark Side" aka shinny chrome twin exhausts.
Firstly, retrofitting OE DAB is now not complicated!

Couple of assumptions first!

I'm retrofitting a MY15 Freelander 2 and I would assume this applies to all
Face lift/MY13 onwards.
You must have either HiLine or Premium Meridian System with MOST Fibre Optic Fast Can Network. This rules out cars with lowline systems as I believe they have no MOST Fibre Optic High Speed Network to interconnect the ECU Modules. Corrected me if I'm wrong in that assumption!
DAB Amplifier/Arial is connected. This is located on the rear passenger side window with a connection to the DAB AmPlifier located in the roof lining above. You should see a little wire coming from the roof lining and connecting to a small press stud on the window.
The theory here can be applied to earlier models dependant on location of DAB module and amplifier. MY15 DAB module mounts to side of Meridian Amplifier.

The main challenge with retrofitting DAB is the main ICE Harness.

Only difference between these two harnesses is the extra MOST Fibre Optic cable loop for the DAB ECU, 2 coax cables, ground and MOST Permamant live connections.

To change out this cable is a total interior out from gear shifter to rear load area. Yes!
I know, not gonna happen and I'm pleased I've worked out how to circumvent this aswell as Dave a 💩💩 load of $ or £.

First thing you need to do is to buy one of these.



MOST Fibre Optic 3 way plug and play. This will allow you to interconnect the DAB module into the MOST loop from the MOST connector on the amplifier. In actuality you only need 1 length of the orange fibre optic
Cable and 1 male plug as you can dismantle the plug to extrude either the TX or RX cable and bring the DAB ECU into the loop. Note that the MOST network runs in a loop so have to be careful to maintain direction of signal.

The only other 4 connections are the ground, MOST Network permanent power and 2 coax connections.

I'm going to wait until I get the MOST cable.
The dome on the roof also needs to be changed to a unit that can receive L Band signals.
I will post part nos later as I can find my notes

I'm going to do this over time and as I get parts so if anyone needs to run ahead then
I'm happy to advise you with what to do.

I may also try and source a used DAB module from a Jaguar if possible as no Freelanders were imported into Australia with DAB so I will keep you informed.

As mention previously you'll need to change roof dome to analogue/digital version for DAB retrofit.

So the final 2 pieces to the jigsaw is the purchasing of the DAB Amplifier and DAB L-Band receiver or roof dome.
Both of these items are already present in my vehicle the only difference with both these parts is the second coax cable connection to the DAB ECU/Module as pictured.

Please be aware these parts are specific to my MY15 Vehicle and it is important that if you are going to retrofit DAB that you check off against Vin, model and infotainment specification as these elements change location and model. I don't know where the DAB ECU/Module is located in pre MY13 so if anyone knows it would be good to know for those with pre-facelift/Alpine models. All I know is that pre-MY13's have the Bluetooth module where the later models have the DAB ECU Module.

3 plugs for DAB ECU arrived today and managed to pick up some used plugs to be able to salvage pins.
Just playing around with how the plugs work.
MOST plug is easy, green plug - power/ground also straight forward, coax simply has terminated ends into the plug and red clip secures them in place. When the DAB ECU gets here I'll need to look into this with a bit more detail. Nothing that can't be solved though.
