replacing rearview mirror

I'm trying to retrofit my rearview mirror to one which has homelink. It appears that if you have the auto dim mirror than the power should be there to run homelink which appears to be self contained in the mirror itself (i.e., no computer involvement).

How does one go about removing the mirror? It looks like you have to twist it counter clockwise to release? I tried and it would not move, I got afraid of breaking it off the glass mount.

Any ideas on how these are removed? This is on a 2014 but I think the mirrors are the same on all FL2s.

On mine you seperate the plastic shroud (splits in half), then turn the mirror a quarter turn as you said.

Thats what I thought, wanted to confirm before I broke anything. Seems like I just need to twist harder.

I am very interested in this mod myself, so would appreciate if you kept this thread updated once you have completed it, even if it fails. LR Dealer over here seems to think that it cannot be retrofitted...if you can prove him wrong, I will take much delight in phoning him and telling him directly that he spouts utter bull. Foraging near Gaydon....

I heard the same as you, then I looked at the connections myself and they were the same. If you have the auto dim mirror then you have the power that is required for homelink (apparently). I didn't think it was possible until I visited some jaguar forums where they were stating you could indeed swap them out (I forget which jaguar) for an evoque mirror that had homelink. My hope is that the design is the same across all land rovers. I can't really see a reason why the car computer would be involved in homelink considering how simple of an operation it is. Eitherway, I bought a $50 homelink mirror from ebay and will fit it once it arrives. I'll be sure to update if I end up with a $50 paper weight.

I thought that the power feed to the mirror was just that, a lot of people on here have changed the non auto dim mirror for an auto dim mirror, so like you have said if the mirror also has a home button then it should just only need the power feed ( one would think ) Freelander 57 plate XS Blue Auto

Yep! Count me in on this one. Does anyone have the part no for the OE mirror with homelink?

All, I got the mirror yesterday installed it and it works! Once you plug it in you can verify it gets power as the home link LEDs turn green when a button is pushed. the hardest part was getting home link synced with my door, most home link guides speak of an amber light these mirrors seem to only have a green one that helps to sync.

I had the auto dimming mirror and this retro fit works, it may also work with non dimming but I can't be sure. Regardless it's safe to assume that the entire home link mechanism is self contained in the mirror.

I have a 2014 and this mirror was from a 2011. I did notice that my 2014 has the spot for the humidity sensor (I think that's what it is) but did not actually have it. the new mirror has that but I'm unsure what it's used by. any ideas around what the humidity sensor is for?

also, I could not find a part number via the Russian micro at site (too hard to tell), I got this mirror from eBay. if anyone knows a part number let me know. I'm going to try this on an Evoque as well.

Gents can you provide some pics and part numbers? Does the the privacy glass or windows tints affect the auto dim? I'm guessing it will Whistle MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

Nuts, it has just occurred to me that the U.S. use a different MhZ transmission frequency to Europe. This may explain why there appears to be two different part numbers for the Homelink mirror. The ones that I have come up with are LR058508 and LR058507 respectively, although I am not sure which is the correct one for UK/Europe. Foraging near Gaydon....

Thanks Badger Wink

Does your HSE Lux have the compass inbuilt into the mirror or is this only reserved for the homelink units? MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior
