LPG converted cars

The other day, there was a Subaru Outback 3.0 petrol auto advertised in the local rags. It was over 100k miles but had been LPG converted. My dad owned a couple of Legacy's years ago and the Outback like the Legacy is very good in snow (on the right tyres), probably better still, but it had me wondering about LPG.

I know zilch about LPG conversions other than the fact it is much cheaper to fill up with than petrol. Does anyone know what sort of MPG figures can be achieved? What's the price to fill up compared with petrol?

Any known reliability issues with the conversion?

It might be a way back into 4x4 world in the future for me so I was curious. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

I once had a company van just to commute from Kent to London
Lpg from new, was a saving over petrol
No probs over 25k miles wile I drove it

My V8 MG ZTT has covered 34000 miles with as far as I know no problems other than the lambda sensors are a bit sensitive to lpg and put a light up on the dash,but relatively old tech Two valve per cyl mustang engine made out of granite! Mr. Green

Probably totally incorrect but I was told by some 'know it all' that lpg can now be taxed and that it won't be long before the government whack the price up. Apparently it was ring fenced before but this period has now expired.

I had my Freelander 1 converted, as well as a couple of previous other cars. You get just a couple of miles per gallons less ( too few to really notice) so (at the time) with the price of LPG at half that of petrol you get half price motoring, or double current (petrol) Mileage.

The last system I had was a Prins which included an additional lubricant ( needed a new bottle every 20k miles approx), I've never suffered reliability issues associated with running on LPG, guess I have always been lucky then!

I just wished a petrol FL2 was still available as I would have done she same again with a new one.

I got my I6 converted. Cost me £2500 to get it done with the BRC system.
Im getting about the same MPG as petrol, 22MPG doing 70MPH on the motorway.
Best thing about it the price at the moment is 53p.

I converted my old discovery V8, easy job if you are handy. replaced the fuel tank with a twin LPG unit and put a small fuel tank (5 Ltr) in the right rear wing for starting, you can start a petrol engine on LPG but it works best if you start on petrol, the management unit then switches to LPG at a set RPM.

Not really used much with diesel, you can convert a diesel to use LPG but unlike petrol, a diesel engine can not run on LPG alone, it has to use around 2 thirds diesel to 1 third LPG, so the savings are not so attractive, especially if you consider the initial cost of the conversion.  MY2014 SD4 XS
